Hi,
I'm seriously considering buying an HDD-based media-player which supports Wifi. I do not want to have to move the player around to copy files and running a 15m network cable through the roof seems unnecessary.
Our home LAN consists of 2 PC's connected via the ADSL router, so it's currently all 100Mbps. It has a Wifi antenna, but the signal seems ridiculously poor (less than 50% signal strength at 5m and sslllooowww connectivity), so I'd rather just keep that completely disabled.
So I'm faced with either getting just a WAP, or getting a Wifi router. There are Wifi routers which cost the same as a 300Mbps WAP, which seem to have the added security of MAC filtering. My brief searches haven't shown that this is provided by WAPs in the R700 region. Alternatively, I could spend R1,400 and get a Gigabit wifi router, bumping our LAN up to 1Gbps, for-what-it's-worth.
Any comments on the pros/cons of combining our ADSL router with either a WAP or Wifi router?
