Warning! Gautrain Traffic Fines

Hi everyone.

I got a email today, apparently there are 15 new permanent camera's that have been erected around the Gautrain construction, places where the speed limit has been dropped from 120 to 80. There is a zero tolerance attitude to these fines, no admission of guilt, you are required to appear in court, fines range from R8000 to R15000.

My dad got two of these "appear in court" things a few days back, anyone else got them?

Be careful, all they want to do is take your money. How they expect people to pay R8000 - R15000 fines in this recession with people who have no jobs and are tightening their belts, I have no idea.

this has been posted in the CA section and taken for the hoax it is.
temporary speed reductions carry lower fines than normal in any case.

Um.. I'm not from Joburg.. but I was there this weekend and my aunt told me she has to appear in court for doing 120km/h around the Gautrain construction areas where the speed limit has been dropped to 80......

AFAIK 40Km/h over the limit does not normally result in a court summons without the possibility of paying an admission of guilt fine (as happened to her).

I also got a letter from traffic saying i exceeded a 80 zone, but going 120+. No admission of guilt a summons will be served, you will need to appear in court.

Waiting for the summons..

But dont think it was near a gautrain construction, think if you exceed a spped limit by 50%, you must appear in court.

Hmm I wonder how many people are getting these, must be 1000s because almost no one slows down in these construction zones...
If everyone slowed down to these speeds, some are 60km/h the N1, would get so congested it would be madness.
