Umm, when should we have logged off and logged on again?

Log-off at midnight, 12am... but looking at your time stamp on your post, i think you're a tad late
 
Ummm what's the big fret about the logging on and off anyway?? UNLESS you leave a download blazing about in the background you can even log off the next day (as I did, though I'd argue next week would even work fine) and still have your monthly bandwidth function fine neh?

Never once logged off at exactly 12am and never once had a problem with getting my uncaplyness back.

Well, having bumped the thread, I forgot all about it (what with countdowns, merriment, and phonecalls). At 15 miniutes past midnight I logged off the current session and on again and the bandwidth monitor said I had already used 120MB for January, when, of course, I had used zip. The 120MB was the session total for the last two days (I was capped).

But its not a problem related to capping at all. One month (when I was still on G3) I was using up unused bandwidth on the last day of the month (and still had some to spare). I used over 400MB. At a few minutes past midnight I went to check if the new bandwidth allowance was up and the bandwidth monitor reported that I only had 2.6Gb left for the month!

Whatever your session total MB usage is at midnight on the last day of the month, that amount will be taken away from your following month's alllowance. That's why you need to log off just before midnight in order to make that amount as small as possible.

Oh no...

I went away for new years and left the Vista torrent (2.5GB without upload) going... I came back and it is done, but was seeding all the time after it finished.

The whole thing was downloaded on one session, if that all carries over I will be quite a bit over my cap right now..

I'm off to check now, really hope it somehow just didn't carry over.

EDIT: Bleh... **** it. 2.08GB used. Now I have less than a gig for January. I just shouldn't have left it seeding all day while I was gone. If I got back this morning it could have been okay.

Well.. Vista better be worth it.

Damn EHV that really sucks, I also lost about 400mb earlier in 2006 and since then have been disconnecting and removing power from the modem between 11:55 till around 12:10 every month, and then I always end up with 0 deducted and the 3GB for the new month.
 
I'm getting iburst soon and i dont want to be stating the obvious but isnt this completely unfair and something that iburst should be sorting out with their usage monitoring system?
 
If you did leave your machine on, could you not contact iburst and get them to rectify it? surely they would be able to see when you logged on and off?

Going by the past it seems they do not know how to fix the bandwidth monitor, but if you get a test done and you have a good signal then iBurst is worth getting AS long as you stick to the hints and tips given in this forum.;)

Just think of all the poor users that are not aware of the bw monitor problem, I'm sure plenty of GB is lost every month by those who do not read this forum.:sick:

I'm actually thinking of emailing Ed or someone about that. Loosing 2 GB doesn't really seem right. They have never warned people about this, and the end of the month is the obvious time to use up the rest of your cap...

Anyway, I'm on Vista now.. its kind of nice, maybe not 2GB nice though..
 
I logged off @ 12:30 and had used 120mb and it wasnt carried over? I only got my uncapped speeds @ like 3 am though?

Iburst have certainly made no effort to warn their customers about this problem. The only way I found out about it was from reading this forum.

Ekhaatvensters, I definately think you should take this up with Ed. How many people are there actually out there who dont know about this problem at all? Essentially, Iburst are "stealing" users bandwith each month if they don't reset, or is that the idea?
 
It's not really stealing. Technically, you still get the bandwidth, since you used it before resetting the modem. (Unless you were capped).
 
GBM, thats not quite true since that time when the bandwidth I was using before midnight was BEFORE I was capped, and then after midnight that same amount was deducted from the new months bandwidth even though I'd not used any from the new month.

Besides iBurst should tell users to logoff as they can't seem to fix the problem.
They could add that comment to the useless news letters they are so keen to send to us all.:rolleyes:
 
Strange though... seems like a pretty major floor when u think about it.
i mean technically if u only had 1 session during the month and went over to the next month u could loose your whole bandwidth for that month straight away. :confused:

Well I nearly lost my entire months cap this month. If I hadn't reset the modem once in between downloading the torrent (After 1GB of download, and about 300mb upload I guess) then I would have been completely capped today.

So now instead I've lost 2GB. I think I will take it up with Ed. It was especially hard to try and "Apply the manual patch :/ " over new years..
