I just signed up for the 4mb uncapped mweb package.

To my dissapointment, I'm only able to download at a useless speed of 50kb/s from rapidshare.

What is the whole point of uncapped if you can't download from Rapidshare?

On my axxess uncapped accoount I can download at a steady 460kb / s

I'm going to cancel my mweb account with immediate effect - I'll rather spend R300 more and download at 10x the speed with axxess at night.

Because it is throttled/shaped during peak times ... sheesh  See what happens at like 10pm tonight before having a hissy.

um... thread fail. :D

You should have read the terms and conditions before you signed up. It states quite clearly in there that they shape heavy downloading during business hours. Wait until after 8 pm tonight and your precious rapid share will be working just fine... N00b! :p

Here are their terms and conditions... http://www.mweb.co.za/legalpolicies/ProductsServices/ADSLTerms2010/tabid/1918/Default.aspx

5. ADSL Acceptable Use Policy

5.2 You will not use the ADSL Service, directly or indirectly, in a way that:

5.2.9 in MWEB’s sole discretion constitutes abuse of the ADSL Service or of MWEB’s system.

5.6 You may not restrict, inhibit or interfere with the ability of any person to access, use or enjoy the Internet or the ADSL Services, or create an unusually large burden on our network, including, without limitation, continuously uploading or downloading streaming video or audio; continuous FTP uploading or downloading, or otherwise generating levels of traffic sufficient to impede others' ability to send or retrieve information, or to use the ADSL Services in an abusive manner in connection with any unlimited packages, options or promotions.

5.7 We reserve the right to establish policies, rules and limitations, from time to time, concerning the use of the ADSL Service. You must comply with any bandwidth, data storage and other limitations we may impose, in our sole discretion. Failure to comply with these rules will result in your service being restricted, suspended or terminated, in our sole discretion.

5.8 We will manage bandwidth usage to the best of our ability during peak periods, however, it remains a best effort service.

5.9 We reserve the right to manage our network in order to optimize its efficiency for the benefit of all our subscribers, including, without limitation, by way of the following: rate limiting (speed), rejection or removal of spam or otherwise unsolicited bulk e-mail, anti-virus mechanisms, protocol filtering and imposing restrictions on your use. We may take any other action we deem appropriate in order to help ensure the integrity of the network experience for all subscribers, including limiting your data traffic by controlling your network and/or bandwidth usage.

5.10 You may not use the ADSL Service for unattended automated operation, unless otherwise agreed. You may stay connected as long as you are actively using that connection. You further agree not to use Internet applications for the purpose of simulating network activity to avoid session inactivity disconnection.

5.12 We are committed to provide you with uninterrupted ADSL Services. However, we can not guarantee that the ADSL Service and the allocated capacity will always be available. .

5.13 We can terminate the ADSL Service at any time if we decide to discontinue the ADSL Service offering for any reason whatsoever, without any further liability to you.

5.14 If the ADSL Service is used in a way that we, in our sole discretion, believe violates this Acceptable Use Policy or any of our rules or limitations, we may take any responsive actions we deem appropriate. Such actions may include without limitation, temporary or permanent removal of content, cancellation of newsgroup posts, filtering of Internet transmissions, and/or the immediate limitation, restriction, suspension or termination of all or any portion of the ADSL Services or your account.

Actually it's not a hissy - it's a valid concern.

MWEB clearly states it is 100% uncapped 100% downloads all the time.

I just phoned technical support now and they said they put rapidshare at the bottom of the priority list for downloads, and that I must try after 6 or 7 for better speeds. However the tech guy said he himself uses this service on a 4mb line from home and he only gets up to a max of 300kb / s in the evenings - still a good 160kb/s short of what I get on Axxess.

Not cool at all.

I'm definitely cancelling if this is the case and sticking with Axxess.

but you were warned about this yesterday when the product was announced. Lots of people were warning you to be careful and go into this with your eyes open (including me). Did you not see us talking about that yesterday? Now all of a sardine, you are miffed cos you can't rape the account? What did you expect for that price?

This is concerning, I was thinking of getting this but just how much bandwidth for my bux am I going to get? I mean this is an uncapped service, its meant to not care how much I get and let me get as much as I can... If I get anything less than 400gigs pm then Axxess is still the cheaper GB/R ratio.... :( Troubling news indeed

Look at all the people complaining. Can't believe it. They did say that its not for pirating. SO why are you complaining? Go to another cheap uncapped option. You won't get one that is not shaped during peak time. IS uncapped is shaped mostly to 128k which is 12kbs download. Now Mweb gives p2p atleast 50-80kbs shaping during peak time. And youtube I can still do. After 8pm you will get full hd speed on everything. Yes its shaped during peak time but isn't that shaped accounts mean?

This is a very good product.

What is your speed during peak time? Do you get 30-80kbs on your IS account? I doubt it. With mweb speed maxes at 8pm on everything. You only get full speed @ 8pm at night. During the day its capped to 128k so I can't see how its better than Mweb?

Dont really care about the day but after 8 I get 1.5GB/hr so if thats how MWeb is and I get 500GB+ pm Ill sign up in April nps! :D

I wouldn't praise Mweb if I couldn't have done that. I'm a very picky when it comes to speed and uncapped. I'm happy with it SO far and it takes a lot to impress me.

People who don't read and understand the T&C's won't get any sympathy from me.

But everyone is singing another song. Sales say 800GB is fine when I asked them. That is how he said that its truely uncapped. Other say that 800GB is ABUSE. So do you blame people for being confused about how much one can do.

Yes, that may be another concern. What is at issue here is the shaping, that was known upfront, right?!
