Password generators are for sissies, just run notepad and type in a random mixture of alpha numeric and special characters that is at least 12 characters in length and has equal numbers of characters from each character group. I prefer passwords that are 21+ characters in length, but not all sites allow for a decent number of characters in passwords.
 
I use about 30 characters as my minimum and 64 characters as my maximum. My program also does a random mixture of alpha numeric and special characters so I'm not that bothered.

I know Skype only allows for a maximum of 20 characters
 
My philosophy is if you cant memorise a password its often not worth having.

Hmmm, I subscribe to the theory that a password that can easily be remembered, will often be found in a cracker's dictionary, and that using a totally random password that is stored securely, is a much better option.

I doubt any of the passwords I use would appear to anyone (other than myself obviously) as being something other than a random series of numbers and letters.

Aha you're a passphrase hasher then? :)

Maybe one day I will write a password generator for myself to use, if I do, I would use a passphrase as the seed, which would then get hashed, and the hash would then have some characters translated to make the resulting password more secure.

I would write the thing for Linux not Windoze, also I wouldn't want to share my own personal password generator with anyone as it would mean that anyone with a large enough dictionary of passphrases could try to crack my passwords...

Passwords

I use PasswordSafe, for passwords - so they're random, I don't have to remember them, and they're not stored in the clear anywhere in my email or on my PC. And it's Bruce Schneier approved! ;)
