Just a friendly warning to any potential 8ta data users - the service (actual internet connection) and customer support is utter crap. I've had techies come to my house, numerous phone calls from 8ta, been told the problem has been "fixed" at least twice but through all of this there has been absolutely NO CHANGE at all to the perfomance.

So once again I'm down to following today's rugby and cricket via text commentary as 8ta bombs out as soon as kick-off starts / the first ball is bowled. They simply can't handle the load on their system.
 
sounds more like a problem that you have. I have a pretty good connection and good coverage and the speeds are great. If I was a new client looking into 8ta I would have still been stuck with EDGE from MTN and GPRS from Vodacom and 1Mpbs speed from cellc. Just saying that its not always everyone that will have a problem if you have one.

I doubt very much that it's just me - anybody out there who IS able to stream any big games from Supersport via 8ta without extensive buffering? The techies tell me I have very strong signal and am 400m from the tower.


Besides, if they're totally unable to ANYTHING about my problem, what makes you think they'll be able to address someone else's?

And then we're not even talking about the frequent disconnects and system down time (as we had this morning)
 
Anybody know what the current state of play visa-vi DSTV/MWeb & 8.ta peering is? Sounds as though this might be the problem here.

8ta not peered at JINX or CINX. probably going via London. lol.

Agree 100%. If you have a good signal with good throughput, consider yourself lucky. After 7 months complaining, 8ta sent out a techie who arrived 3 weeks late for his appointment saying he got lost. He had a laptop with a flat battery and had never heard of the idea of attaching an external aerial to a modem to improve the reception. I took back the 8ta SIM to the shop and stopped the debit order.

I'm pretty close to doing that. Service has degraded a lot.

However these look to me to be private IP addresses ? ( someone correct me )

IF so I have no idea what they are doing in a traceroute ?

My hop ONE is missing an entry ( should be my internal private IP on my subnet. )

This seems to be the exact same methodology followed by Bra VODA

Perhaps Bra 8ta is not as coy and shy as Bra VODA in explaining how THEIR network topology is structured ?

Maybe SA has "lent" all their PUBLIC IP's to the UK for the Olympics ?????? :D

Anything to say Bra 8ta and Bra VODA ??????
 
Question: Why are you using 8ta when we have all this lovely ADSL going around? Personally I had to use Iburst for over a year and they werent bad but man I missed my uncapped.
 
Just yesterday made download of service pack for office 2010. ~400M
Rock stable speed 9Mbbs. Houghton / Killarney
One more time - if you got plenty of bucks - take 10M ADSL for a x000 R/pM
Want to save money - take 8ta and be creative!
3G Stick position, external antenna e.t.c will work.
 
My closest 8ta tower is 2.2km away. Even with 14db aerial the signal is crap
 
The last few weeks, I couldn't even open a single browser window... I still have more than 6GB left.... Techie was here a few weeks ago, and it just gets worse... It used to be great. What is the point of paying for something you can't use?

Check cable, connections and coupling between antenna and stick!
Each 6dB signal increase equal of halfing of the distance. 14 dB = distance/4.5. It's mean that proper 14dB antenna equal of the tower @ 500m in your case.

Hi Digibanks99!

Their are some complications with the upgrade of your tower. We have our high level engineers and project managers involved in this. They do not have a timeline for us as yet, but we will let you know once we receive feedback.
