I want to enter one. Who here has done one. How far was your "running Distance" you did before you entered the race? (meaning did you run on a weekly basis and how far)

How far are the obstacles from each other?

:) thanx :)

I did the last 2 races. I never run, but am generally fit from other sporting activities. For the rookie race the total distance is between 5 and 6 km, but the obstacles are not evenly spaced. Sometimes there are 3 right after each other, then ~800 m to run before the next one. Truth be told, we walked between most of them. I would suggest that you do it with a team of cool friends, unless you can jump quite high and pull up your own body weight.

It is awesome fun, especially when done in a team. Doing them has brought me a lot closer to my more reserved friends.

You should absolutely and totally do it.

I was just worried about the running in between :o, I do a 3km most mornings and yoga during the week was worried that it was not enough :D.
Thank You!!

I will now go search for new friends :D

I did the race with some guys who were very unfit. They managed (as part of the team). You can take it really slow and you'll be okay at the end (referring to the Rookie race).

If you want some training tips to make the race easier:
Do a lot of core work - this will help with the balancing obstacles, climbing obstacles and mud crawling obstacles
Do a lot of upper body work (push ups, pull ups, dips) - get those girly arms, chest and shoulders strong.
Running is actually secondary, but make sure you can easily run 3km in a reasonable time (sub 21 minutes)

Thanx! I'm liking the thread! Thanx :)

I know someone who just did his first race on Saturday. He said there were 15 obstacles over the 5km run. He is relatively fit. He said there is a 6 foot jump from a wall into a "pool". Your feet don't touch the bottom of the pool thing, so if you cant swim then you skip the obstacle. If you get to the black ops stage then all team members must complete the obstacles.

Be prepared to get dirty, muddy and a few scratches :)

I can't wait to do my first race next year.

:mad: are you saying i'm and old fart :mad;

huh huh??

:D

I did not say anything of the sort are you calling me ageist?

Huh huh?

I'm also curious but don't want a bunch of 18 year olds saying its easy and then have a heart attack half way.

You will be more than ok to do the 5km obstacle course.

hahahahaha!! :D

I'm old but not that old. :D

True True. :)

Well, me and all my friends are on the other side of 30 :) Some people are competitive about it and do the rookie in under an hour, but if you're just out to have fun, there's no need to worry about the distance (as mentioned, the running is secondary). To give you an idea, our team of mostly women did the race in 2:31 yesterday, in the rain through slippery mud.

As a woman, I would say my biggest problem is a lack of upper body strength, being able to pull yourself up stuff is a pre-requisite for at least one person in the team.

Oh yes, you can skip an obstacle, but then you have to do a 'forfeight' of burpees, the number of which generally vary between 5 and 50 depending on the obstacle.

I did the warrior race once, was really awesome. I just don't understand why everyone has to run it, since all my friends want to run it I decided to give it a skip.

I did 3 already, if you can do a 2km jog then you should be more than fine for the rookie. The amount of waiting gives you enough time to rest.

Just have a tall guy in your team. He doesn't really need to be strong, just needs to give you leverage to get over the wall and maybe an arm at the half pipe. He doesn't need to pull you up, you will just need a hand to grip on and then you can pull yourself up.

Did rookie last year in 1h13
Commando over weekend 1h23
