Government probably haven't gotten around to updating their infrastructure maps, because those cables have only been around for a few years ...

Interesting theory, but I find that rather hard to believe. Why would 4 major cables all peer at the same location, which has a limited internet presence?

I already posted elsewhere that there is a large undersea canyon just off Abidjan, which would explain the break better. We will find out soon...

Azure says the issue is due to international cable breaks, yet they're routing all CDN and FrontDoor requests via Europe pops even if the client and origin are in ZA :cautious: basically just switched off ZA pops even for local routing.

The power to the submarine repeaters failed. Nothing to do with peering.

With 4 down I was looking at any common denominator. Peering is one, power is another, there may be more.

I Dunno.

The conspiracy theorist in me says that it's an ideal time for a nation state threat actor to install a tap on the fibre and slurp all the traffic up, for decryption later.
 
I've established an VPN connection via the Netherlands and, bar the 200ms latency, all my MS Services work as per usual.
Even locally hosted ones, for some reason. Perhaps they are only showing ZA on the screen, whereas they are actually hosted in Europe/US.
