Makes you wonder why they laid multiple cables along that route, knowing the canyon was there!? Nature has a way of making fools out of human hubris...

Presumably the cables that didn't break avoided the coastal route completely?

Actually, none of them were clever enough to do that from the beginning.

The only exception is the planning committee of the 2Africa cable, who took it upon themselves to put their cable far away from any of those canyons, but that grand project is not serving South Africa yet. (Perhaps later this year it will go live.)

Yeah SACS is not being used because it's causing issues where certain European networks favour sending traffic via Brazil. SAF is being used but for a Asian networks.

Latency would increase as it goes via Brazil. Except lower latency to the States.

That is the Congo one and not this one. This is mentioned as a geographic fault and not river. What river is there with that flow in Abidjan?
