Even if a cable has no landing, it can be disrupted if it passes through the same coastal canyon route. The Equiano cable runs far offshore across that route.

I don't know. I just assumed it was in the region of that massive under water trench based on the previous landslide which severed the cable. To be fair they still have to find the exact spot of the break.

These cables are all lying at a depth of 3km all next to each other? Ja ja.

So what else, geothermal activity? None of that there either.
 
I put it to you that you all smoking some good stuff about this canyon. The landing station is at Bassam.
So you telling me that 4 cabling companies have laid a cable up directly to Abidjan in a canyon and then directly on the coast line connected to Bassam?

Pretty sure the break is west of the landing station at Bassam, which is where the canyon lies. Nobody has said anything about the cable being cut between Cape Town and Abidjan. Only broken between Abidjan and Europe...

BS. That is not how the cables run. They go perpendicular directly to branching units that are 400 to 500 km offshore.

Do you have a reference to prove that this is how the cables run (all of them on the continental shelf)?

The continental shelf off the Ivory Coast is very steep, nowhere near 400-500km offshore. Look at the links and maps posted two pages back.

P.S. This thread is becoming circular, with you arguing against straw-man issues...

Huh? Where did I say the continental shelf is 400km-500km? I said that the cables run perpendicular to the shore to branching units at a distance of 400km to 500km.

That means cables do not hug the shores as fishing and shipping traffic will be more than likely damage the infrastructure with that type of deployment.

I put it to you that all those cabling companies are stupid morons if they ran their cables on the continental shelf like what you are describing and Africa doesn't deserve the Internet.

My premise is that they are also using a common power cable or path from Grand Bassam on the shore to power their offshore repeaters in that section. Regardless, they still morons for not having geographical diversity for the power on their repeaters.
