So the repeaters on 3-4 seperate cables went down at the same time, in the same general area?

Okay, so my guess, is that there is not exactly a great many sources of power, suitable, for those types of projects.

Or they where from a China batch, with an expiry date built in.

They feed power over copper from the shore.. In this case there seems to have been only a single feed and not an A and B feed for power and route diversity.
Bit of a cock up IMO but having these guys admit that will never happen. They'll rather blame landslides...
 
This is the CS Sovereign in the fault zone doing the repair for the last few days and tracking its course As you can see it has cut and brought to the surface the branch line and not the main submarine cable line.
Which begs the question, how did a fault on the branch link cause a fault on the main line. @Jan And how did all 4 cables fail at once?

Suspected landslide?

Landslide at a depth of 4.5km and 250km off the coast where the surrounding undersea terrain is as flat as a pancake?

More like a shunt where the integrity of the cable was compromised by the sea water triggering a short on the power.
