right so after completing this I decided that the noise/heat from my 6950 was much more than I was happy with.

even with an Asus card that has some pretty decent cooling on it, and with MSI Afterburner custom fan profile, I'm simply could not handle the constant whining fans spinning at 3000rpm trying to keep my card cool. OCing to 910 from 800 stock. More irritating was the constant change in RPM  PC sits next to me on my desk, so its all very audible.

finished everything this weekend

Temp feedback:

I measured before I started and I was on 47 cold boot and 5 min later 57. So basically idle was 57. Dual 1920x1200 monitors hooked up. My new idle temp after about 10 min is...

dual monitor 37 Single monitor 34

Been fiddling around and I used furmark to get load temps. I'm overclocking to 910 from 800. (think that is stock)

I'm sitting on 44 stable load.

I remember I was getting high 70's when I was playing Alan Wake and low-mid 70's when playing Skyrim, gonna fire those up later and see what it gives me now.

Temps are really a bonus for me. The main thing is that I dont have those whining 3000rpm fans. Only 2 x 120mm running at about 980rpm so its dead quiet now.

Ive always run the card at 910mzh with no issues... I wonder with such a temp drop if I will be able to set it even higher. Might have to up the V though

Looks good to me :D
Especially the temps! Enjoy your new found silence :)

As for overclocking, yes, there will be a point at which you will need to up the voltage. You'll have to fiddle and figure out what point that is at.

3000 rpm is nothing...
try having 5000 rpm about 30cm from your ear...
ive been to quieter racetracks...

but on topic, not sure how stable the vrms in the 6950's are, but careful when upping the voltage...
might seem stable, but could pop at any moment

Wow. Don't you just love people complaining about noisy fans. I'm running 2x GTX570 and I don't hear them when playing bf3. Also I don't have to let them spin at 3000rpm on idle so getting watercooling kit is a unworthy expense

Wow. Dont you just love people complaining about other people spending their money the way they want to.

Different people react to the same levels of noise differently, nevermind that some people may have a different sound setup to you. So if one person wants water cooling for silence, so be it. Who are you to barge in and tell him otherwise?

Who says I'm sitting on 3000rpm in idle?

Also that's simply your opinion. I can't help it if you deaf

Agree also depends on the cooling 3000rpm on normal fan is a bit loud but on a twin frozr not so much. I'm sorry for my comment. I still love water cooling just a bit expensive for me now and i travel to much with my pc.

You might be able to get higher as long as your temps is below 70C everything is fine.

Had the same issue with my 6970. Noisy is not even the correct word for it. ****ing noisy is more descriptive.

I slapped on a Arctic Accelero II and I can barely hear it at 100% fan speed.

some of the components I got from PPCS using a thread on carbonite

I also ordered some stuff myself from EK

Its quite expensive to get this kind of thing up and running, Im not gonna lie. Only look at doing it if you wanna get your hands dirdy and empty your wallet lol :)
