#WaterShare stupidest idea yet!!

I consider arm chair activism as making no physical differences , this is actually dropping of water and at some point some one will drink that bottle of water so I disagree that its arm chair activism

Yes, slacktivism is sharing and hastagging buzzwords whilst not doing anything.

Let us work on the example in the article:
Gift of the givers raised 2500l of water. To which they then distributed using a bakkie. Most people donated 5l water bottles. Each of which costs about R20 if you buy it from a shop.
Pick and pay online

So they raised 500 bottles, which ended up being worth about R10 000 in bottled water.
With that you can buy a 2500 l Jojo vertical water tank which can be topped up for orders of magnitude less.
2500l Jojo

It is armchair activism at best.

You complaining about what other people are doing to make a difference, while apparently doing nothing yourself but complain, is armchair activism at it's worst.

The other thing, is that if the accepted unsealed bottles of water there is no way of knowing what is inside them. There are sick fsckers on this planet who would lace the water with poison etc etc...

/donates stream of fresh secondhand water to lawn..

Thx for the loan, mother nature!

The only thing this program is doing well is making bottled water suppliers very very rich overnight.

With a bit more planning, they could distribute very cheap tap water. The argument that unsealed bottles are unsafe is besides the point. Get the program owners to fill the water tanks from a clean municipal supply if they are worried. Obviously you can't trust donated water in open containers. Nobody is asking for that as it is stupid to transport donated tap water to a central depot when it could just be filled there anyway.

Problem most municipal supplies are running dry ,taking from those that have adds to the pressure on them

Its so stupid they should get people to donate money then and get the water shipped by a proper supplier.
when they did this in Gauteng the other week I just laughed they doubling the work, having people bring it to a central place then they still needed to have volunteers on a Monday to load and ship the water. Plus I know they supposed to be sealed bottles but that's just a small formality for some.

How much water can a single person reasonably donate? 48 500ml bottles is a lot so a person to bring in a car, a lot of weight too. Think of all the petrol wasted by people driving to donate and then other people having to move it again.

Then also where does the water come from the shopping centers? so the Chain stores like Pnp, Woolies and Spar are all making money off this.
It's a stupid wasteful exercise.

Ok then, so what have you done to help those suffering with the drought?

What we do or not contribute doesn't change the fact that it is exceptionally wasteful. Let's not even debate the fact the government is failing these communities and the public have to pick up the slack to save lives.

We are saying there is a better way to help MORE people for much less money and it is being ignored. What is so wrong about that? Should we shut up and not give advice? You are saying that we are not allowed to have an opinion on something if we do not contribute to the current solution. That's a very dangerous stance to have.

Problem most municipal supplies are running dry ,taking from those that have adds to the pressure on them, storing open water increase risk of contamination , more money was put into actually water rather than infrastructure makes transport easier, in many cases. These are the reason I speculated on if you have better info please do share

And the water keeps rolling in. 8 tons removed last night & hardly a dent made. Total over 370 000l.

If you can do it better, then go at it... or STFU.

+1,if you can do better then nobody is stopping you.

Lol I guess he doesn't realize the irony of his statement, accusing actual activists of being what he is.

I donated to Boere in Nood.
Who are using the money to buy food for farm animals, as well as for organising logistics.

The topic is water and what normal people can do and feel that they are doing something that is worth something. Swiping your card for R5000 just doesn't feel the same as handing over R5000 in cash, when you buy something.

I'll take grass clippings from mowing lawn tomorrow to NG Kerk Moreleta, they are making pellets from them for feeding animals.

I go for maximum impact over feelings.
This is why I give to homeless shelters over beggers.
