Instead of becoming competitive and offering better deals, they are going to fire a lot of their employees.

I doubt it.
They have made it no secret that they never listen to their customers.
There was a MTN rep on MyBB, who disappeared after a few questions and request for assistance.
He paid a heavy price for trying to help customers
The rep probably did but since they didn't spend millions on him, they didn't believe him.
No sh*t! Still, acknowledging the issues is always a good start.![]()
Actually they were pretty competitive at the turn of the century and that is when I joined them,at the time they had great products and great deals,I was so chaffed at my MTN contract with 3G that I even got my dad and other family members to join them....sadly over the course of the 10-12 odd years I was with them they started slowly turning the screws and basically became more expensive, instead of 200 minutes talk time on the anytime 200 customers started getting nailed with R200 airtime contracts which converted to only like 80 odd minutes talk time as an example of how greedy they became.LOL....only now, after being noncompetitive since 1994?![]()
They bled a lot of customers to Cell C and Telkom Mobile in particular.
They failed to adapt to market conditions. MTN should know that it is important that you retain your client basis. Once gone, it is hard to get them back. Myself had many contracts at MTN a while ago but I am not interested to do business with them anymore.
I say kudos to Cellc

First step to recovery, admit the problem...

They never had any competition, so how could they have been competitive?
Between Vodacom and them, they always had exactly the same pricing for everything.
