We are uncompetitive: MTN

Boo fsuckn hoo. They knew about the decline in revenue and all the migrating customers and still got bonuses. Sounds like eishkom. Rewarding non performance. They recently increased data prices, why? Shouldn't they be trying to win customers and not try to piss away the customers they have? Feel sorry for those employees. Retrenchment is not leka.

so it is time for your strategy managers to start reading this forum - we have been giving more than adequate indication of the misguided track the company has put itself on and warned that it is locking its way into being uncompetitive and a market follower.

The best place to start the turnaround strategy is on approach towards Call Termination Rates - take the lead, stop being cowards; there are solutions in your medium term and long term interests.

So their solution for not having the competitive products is firing staff? just a matter of time before MTN ask government for a bailout

I doubt it.

They have made it no secret that they never listen to their customers.

There was a MTN rep on MyBB, who disappeared after a few questions and request for assistance.

He paid a heavy price for trying to help customers

It's pretty vicious when top management messes up and staff have to pay the price with their jobs - those managers keep right on

He paid a heavy price for trying to help customers

sadly this would indicate why MTN is in ****
whoever took the decision to impose such a price should be the person sitting without a job when the retrenchment blade has to come down

No sh*t! Still, acknowledging the issues is always a good start. :)

Yes,I have held great resentment for them towards the end of my contract with them and until now simply because of their failure to be competitive or even admit they were not competitive, they instead tried to brainwash people with extensive catchy marketing campaigns like Ayoba etc. which gave no actual value to their clients and just alienated those of us intelligent enough to see how inaccurate their claims were.

LOL....only now, after being noncompetitive since 1994?
Actually they were pretty competitive at the turn of the century and that is when I joined them,at the time they had great products and great deals,I was so chaffed at my MTN contract with 3G that I even got my dad and other family members to join them....sadly over the course of the 10-12 odd years I was with them they started slowly turning the screws and basically became more expensive, instead of 200 minutes talk time on the anytime 200 customers started getting nailed with R200 airtime contracts which converted to only like 80 odd minutes talk time as an example of how greedy they became.

They bled a lot of customers to Cell C and Telkom Mobile in particular.

They failed to adapt to market conditions. MTN should know that it is important that you retain your client basis. Once gone, it is hard to get them back. Myself had many contracts at MTN a while ago but I am not interested to do business with them anymore.

Yep I feel exactly the same,I used to be a huge fan of MTN but somehow the way they screwed us (their loyal customers) over the years has left me with a sense of great resentment towards them, even if they come out with a great deal tomorrow I would find it hard to trust them not to repeat what they have done in the past.I would actually sooner change to Vodacom!

I say kudos to Cellc

Yep especially since the 99c per minute deals they have been the shining star in SA telecoms, although the signs are there that they too would like to pull an "MTN" on us,but fortunately the competition is not allowing them to do this,MTN could pull it of easily all those years ago because at the time Vodacom didn't bother competing.

They never had any competition, so how could they have been competitive?

Between Vodacom and them, they always had exactly the same pricing for everything.

It always amazes me that top management don't need to perform for bonuses but the staff have to and the same goes for retrenchments. FU management.

In early 2000's their prices were definitely more keen than Vodacom's,I remember doing comparisons at the time and Vodacom couldn't come close even at a certain stage, that's how MTN built up market share at the time.
