Depends what the fuel levy covers exactly.

I'm not too versed on the fuel levy but I do believe it covers for the state of the roads in which case yes they should.

But then trucks should pay more and it's an impossible thing to implement unless you remove it from the fuel levy and add it to the vehicle licensing instead.

well, toll gates do just that - bikers pay less and truckers more. Essentially, tolling is a better alterative for bikers on being "fair" (not sure on the e-tolls, but the N3 tolls are like that)

Saw a creep in his taxi hit the shoulder of the highway this morning to bypass jammed up traffic (one wheel on, one wheel off) & thought how that must impact parts of the road that was not meant to be travelled on. Brought up the argument for taxi's again, privately owned businesses that carries a lot of people but they do such damage to the roads why are they exempt again?

Oh yeah the ANC's too cowardly to try & make them pay.

Don't taxis pay a lot more in their yearly license costs though,
 
So all the bikers did was p!ss off regular users of the N1 and causing them massive delays. Way to stick it to SANRAL, NOT!

Yeah, scared of the violence and destruction the taxis can bring. Also, they know if they increase taxi fairs that it's the poorer people's who use taxis as transport will be paying (even more than needed, great excuse for taxi owners to add some extra on top and blame etolls), than that is just going to end in people not voting (or worse yet, voting for another party)

And it's going to get worse, as the rand destabilizes over the coming election period (and all the other things kicking the rand in the balls) the price of petrol is set to increase drastically. It's going be a tough first half of the year for us all.

Protest action at SANRAL offices, at the Union buildings whatever. Why inconvenience the rest of SA? The SANRAL pigs sat at home, sat in the control centres probably laughing their heads off at regular people annoying other regular people. This protest got some news coverage, apart from that what was accomplished?

How about protesting outside the government buildings, or the SANRAL offices... the idea of causing a stand still on the highway and disrupting a lot of (innocent?) people seems like something taxis do...

Is it just me or does it seem like the media coverage on this has been extremely thin?

Almost as if the media were told not to carry the story and or the media just thought that its not news worthy enough.
