Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Good afternoon guys,

We are having a really slow morning and afternoon on our WebAfrica Realm (Silver Packages).

It runs on IS AFAIK.

Is anyone else experiencing delays? It's slow all around, but especially International.

our office makes use of Webafrica Business Capped, I have to wait around for somebody to pitch so decided to kill some time playing Team Fortress 2.

And ja. the ping is about constant at 999, if I ping the server all looks good

so what is causing this massive lag? or is the Business Capped just shapping this port to hell?
 
So it seems like almost every night Dota 2 becomes unplayable, I've tested with a friends IS account and it worked perfectly with that account so doesn't look like a line issue.

Here are two tests I just did, second image didn't come out too well. This is an ongoing thing and I even noticed earlier in the thread someone complaining of the exact same issue. Any word from WA?

Something I picked up though, all my previous tracerts for WA I saw a IS server being used. In these I see MTN business. Might be that. My speeds for the last 2 weeks have been terrible to say the least.

I need to get our team to investigate and escalate to our Network team but will need the account details of everyone who is having problems.Please PM me the details so I can take this further.

Our team will need to go through the normal testing procedures and will require results from your end. I would implore that everyone please assist us as much as possible so that we may get this matter resolved.
 
@WAJustinW I have already opened a ticket with the WA support and they can not find anything wrong with my account. No surprise there. Could you comment on the IS to MTN backbone switch?

If you can still PM me the ticket number or your customer code so I can take a look to make sure our guys troubleshooted the problem correctly.

With regards to the MTN backbone switch, we have no plans at all to switch from our backbone from IS.

hops 1 - 4 shows that you are connected on the IS network, but then due to the web server for mybroadband being hosted on the MTN backbone (via hetzner) you are routed over the peering point to MTN's network (hops 6-16)

It also explains the fact that the problem with WebAfrika 's network atm is the Internet Solutions (IS) part. Look at hops 3-4 and 4-5 , thatis where the congestion and problems seem to come from. afrihost and Openweb for instance use MTN as their backbone provider and that is why I don't have any issues when I switch from my WA account to my Afrihost account. If WA don't sort this out very quickly, and come out openly to us on this issue, I am going to cancel ALL my and my clients and friend's lines and accounts with WA ...

Not quite. Hops 4-5 you expect to see a jump in latency as it traverses over a peering point. However, it could be that, that specific peering point might be congested at certain times of the day. Easiest way to check is to do the same traceroute at random intervals during the day.

As far as I know, Openweb uses IS as well, not MTN.

We offering all our capped account customers' (excluding Resellers) the same amount of data they have on their capped account in download plus (12-6am), for free for the next 3 months. This essentially means all capped account customers' get double their data cap for the next 3 months (Sept-Nov. 2013).

If you already have download plus (DL+) attached to your account you will still get the free data allocation and that will be used first before taking your current DL+ data. Any unused free allocation data does not carry over to the next month and will start fresh at the start of a new month.

So get scheduling guys and enjoy the free DL+ GBs! :D

This looks great - when did you let people know? I haven't heard anything about this. Does this cover the MyBB specials etc?
 
Does WebAfrica offer any sort of trial on uncapped accounts? I'm currently with OpenWeb but have been having endless issues gaming during weekdays. I'd like to trial an account rather than committing to something that probably won't prioritise gaming but might be good enough.

I have a 2Mb line.
