Web Africa ADSL general feedback

WA DNS server is failing on *.google.com lookups at the moment. All other lookups appear to be fine

Edit: Nevermind, working again
 
Dunno what has happened, but my streaming is almost dead, and I'm getting a "your internet connection is unstable" message on my galaxy on my home wifi network. Been trying to load up some sites, but it's taking 1min plus to get into some of them, mybb included!

Edit - Seems to be up and running 100% again now, 5 minutes later.

Same here, some websites can be seen, but google isn't loading, And cant get into mirc :/

I'm also having issues with sites not loading, not resolving and I'm also experiencing high pings to London and the US (around 30ms higher than usual).

If I switch to my AH account, the problem goes away!

Looking for some info, currently with Afrihost but looking to switch...
I am on the 10Mbit Business Account, uncapped and unshaped/throttled...
Does WebAfrica offer anything like that?
With Afrihost even if I had to download 1TB in a month, I would not be shaped or throttled...
I am looking for a service like what Afrihost offers...Thanks

Web Africa is a litlle more restrictive than that. If you download a lot during the day, you will get shaped during the day. That's it.

I'm on 10MB/s Web Africa Business btw.
 
I just want to compliment WA on the improvement in their telephone support times. I'm talking specifically about how long it takes for support to answer the phone.

Have you made changes in the last 2/3 months WA, or have i just been lucky :) ?

Didn't you tell me a while ago, that you could max the line 24/7 on web Africa business?
 
@WA - is your pathetic capped service now shaping after hours too? I had 4 downloads queued for after midnight, and only 2 finished as they both went at 250k/sec! On a 20mbps line! Speedtest is still full speed, of course.

I thought it was just during business hours that you tried to pass off your NNTP throttling as "shaping" - is this now the case after hours too? 1 Aug and the end of the notice period cannot come fast enough at this point.

I said that regarding Axxess Business.

I'm using Web Africa now as streaming is more important to me than torrents.

If all you want to do is torrent then Axxess/AH Business is perfect for you.

Nothing quite like getting 150K/sec on an NNTP download any time during the day, on a 20mbps line. I cannot believe you do not have enough bandwidth to manage more speed than this, as you did it fine for the months I was with you until you unceremoniously clamped on daytime limits with zero notice or explanation. This is throttling, plain and simple. Your claims of shaping are blatant lies, or there would at least be SOME point between 8am and 5pm that downloads would actually rise above 150K/sec. I'd take it up with the CPA but I'm quite sure your lawyers have already buried clauses allowing you to make any and all changes you deem fit to your T&Cs and AUP whenever you want.

I'll be glad to see the back of this company. Your support is terrible, I've already moved my hosting away and this will be the last vestige of any faith I had in your services running out.

I'm off to Afrihost capped, colleague of mine says he gets full speed all the time, and you don't have to do this split "after hours".

I'm currently testing a few options. Top of my list would be VOX Fat Pipe capped accounts + after hours bolt-on, but it seems I missed that train by a couple of weeks as they no longer offer the Bolt-on with their fat pipe accounts. So far though, VOX accounts have been the most impressive to me speed-wise day and night, though there are now inklings that the service is deteriorating with many heavy uncapped users joining recently and depleting bandwidth.

Afrihost capped is next on my list, though they have IPC capacity issues here in the South. That said, they don't blatantly throttle their capped / business uncapped accounts, so it's night and day better than WA's capped offering - and if you don't live in the South, probably your best bet performance/price wise.

I've been keeping an eye on Crystal Web as the new entrant to the market, though they're still having teething issues from what I can discern from their forum thread, so I'll give that some time. AH at least has no notice period, so I may just end up going with them while I keep an eye on the market.

I'm testing all of the following capped accounts currently: Afrihost, Web Africa home capped pro, and VOX fatpipe.

Today I took some leave to spend with my son before the holidays are over, and Afrihost has been less than useless trying to stream cartoons on Netflix, at best fuzzy SD quality. On a 20Mbit VDSL line.

Vox a bit better, and Web Africa by far the best, a clear high bit rate HD stream on Laptop and AppleTV during lunchtime.

The rest of the week, Afrihost has been fine, and the weekends it's usually good as well.

It just seems a bit of a lucky packet at the moment though. I'd love to know what causes the random network quality degradation on some ISP's, when others are fine, and vice versa.

Good ol' SA. Less for more.
