It is a bit weird that their business accounts work optimally between 12 and 6. Guess they are the preferred ISP for Teazers and massage parlours.
I agree 100%
I choose capped so that whenever I need to use my paid for gigs I should be able to enjoy a great experience.
Over the years whenever WA introduce something new they don't seem to get their provisioning of bandwidth right and many users suffer. I think now that they have tried to be very aggressive with capped accounts, some capped users are suffering (I have experienced this on some of my - very limited - daytime downloads)

I find that I can stay on 3 stars if I stay within 3gig for the day on my 10meg line. So not too much youtube and streaming in HD and I am fine.

.Admittedly am out of my depth here - but using nntp on a non-standard port (aren't 433 and 563 used for nntp protocol?) might result in a low network priority.
My usage profile is likely different than yours - low consumption but I must have high network priority. (For stock market data.) As strange as it might sound - I'd rather have aggressive management than an uncontested free-for-all for bandwidth. OTOH sounds as if you've been with WA for a number of years and have more experience, more so than me.
I think that's entirely besides the point. Whether I'm downloading a linux ISO via HTTP on port 80 or using NNTP on port 563, the very fact that I'm paying for bandwidth per gig, and not on an uncapped package where I'm paying a flat rate open to abuse, should put ALL my bandwidth on the very top network priority level. Not only is this not the case, but I'm being shaped into oblivion.
Lessee. 3 gigs a day times 30 equals 90 gigs monthly. Could be because home uncapped has the lowest network priority?
Weird. I don't find that I'm shaped at all when it comes to my home capped account unless it's during business hours, where it's slightly less than max speed (by like 20kb/s maybe). Even then it's 1000 times faster than Afrihost and any sort of streaming I do is almost instant with no buffering.
Which area are you in?
Believe me I'm sympathetic. But as you no doubt realize - one is paying for bandwidth per gig subject to the conditions of the ISP. If one doesn't like those conditions, best to vote with one's wallet. If only it were so that folks could d/l as much as they want whenever they want, over here. It took me awhile to figure out and understand the local DSL scene compared to my stateside experience with DSL.

I've been watching the International the last few nights on Twitch using "Source" quality, without issue. 20Mb AH Business though, which is a bit overkill but I could never get their 10Mb Business to even work on "High".
Well that's absolutely bizarre, because my experience is exactly the opposite with AH and WA. 20mbps on AH, and barely 120K/sec during the day on WA capped. I'm in CPT. If they've implemented some kind of selective shaping / star rating crap on capped accounts now too, I hope it comes out soon and people leave them in droves.
I have no problems with the ISP having conditions on their bandwidth. I have no problems with daytime shaping if their network is under strain. I am however limited to 120K/sec for downloads all day, every day, when my line can handle 1.9MB/sec. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a better level of performance, considering when my gigs are up, I'd need to pay them again to use more.
No stars but WA does shape capped accounts. In a way, and this is not directed at you personally, I wouldn't have a problem with people leaving in droves! (Will there be a landslide of disgruntled AH users moving to WA? Hope not.)
That is a low speed. Not sure why that is so, but then again do not know your usage style.
The point is that my usage style shouldn't affect my capped account. It is a capped account. There is no mention of a star rating, or an AUP on capped accounts anywhere on the WA pages. If this is being implemented it has been done (a) in secret and (b) illegally, since I wasn't notified. If not, the capped accounts are just plain throttled during the day, and seemingly at random / by region, since some users report no problems, and some are in the same boat as me. Since AH gives me far better speeds, that's where I'm going, and WA can keep their secretive shaping policies and lack of feedback. (not a single comment from a WA rep. in this thread for how long?)
Been clock-watching as I've had a lot of downloads scheduled today and they've been running since the morning. It's funny how the capped accounts are ONLY subject to "shaping" when "the network is busy" and the poor, poor backbone can't handle giving me more than 120K/sec at ANY time during the day - but at the STROKE of 5pm (literally 5:00:01pm) my download speed ratcheted all the way up to 1.9MB/sec, magically. This is throttling rules being relaxed at a specified time, by an automated system.
Yep have been with WA for many years and am generally happy with my ability to browse, watch youtube, stream internet radio during the day. I have - until recently - also been able to download the odd file during the day at pretty much full speed. But - a while ago - I had issues with them on the daytime downloads and eventually it was sorted. Sadly it now seems like we have taken a few steps back wards on this front.
Anyway I am hoping it was just a short term measure as I want the freedom on the odd occasion to be able to DL a file during the day and not wait ages. My big DL's all have in DL+ hours, so am using the account as I think it should be
Dude. Don't know what to say. Wish I could alleviate some of your pain. BTW I do keep an AH capped account as backup, I do find that AH throughput speed is higher at times, and at times I do use AH for downloading and uploading. But when it comes to international streaming, and for me that would be stock market data, I find WA to have consistent international latency even when throughput speed drops, which AH doesn't consistently have on the MTN international backbone. Hence WA works for me - no glitches when buying and selling on the markets.
