Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Thanks. Main usage is Netflix and gaming. Although with all the extra after hours data I will probably have to look at getting more torrents. Does web Africa have a free news server?
 
Hi everyone. Looking to upgrade my capped package to Home Uncapped. I'm a bit concerned regarding the FUP. Will I get slowed down to snail pace if I do around 100-150GB per month?

what line speed?
and when do u do most of your downloads?

Yes. They use the IS news server.

The past few weeks have been incredibly slow just browsing on my Capped Account. Thinking that things will be faster after work hours ends up being a disappointment often. Rebooting the router shows some improvement sometimes but it takes about 15 minutes just to authenticate.

Furthermore, I no longer seem to be able to sync my line at 6Mbps (I used to months ago) despite Telkom lying to me and saying I'm good for 10.

Please investigate as it is impossible to get any work done during the day as a result and I would prefer not to be the loser who has to go into the office on days when I can work from home.

I think I'd rather have 10meg Business.

Your usage isn't that high. 4meg should be fine. If you can schedule like 50GBs of that for midnight though you won't get shaped at all.

Last night (After 12AM) a huge torrent file ("Linux Distro") was successfully downloaded onto my PC without issues. The average torrent speed was around 200Kb/s.

Youtube's been terribly slow 24/7 since last week :confused:

EDIT: I've submitted a ticket (#2181145). Please fix it asap :( It's ruining my life.

WebAfrica bothered Telkom every single day to make sure that they were working on fixing the issue. Once fixed, my account was credited with the amount that was owed to me, and I was give 5 free non-expiring, anytime gigabytes as a sign of good faith.

It wasn't even their fault!

Hi LWS,

Please post your line stats with a trace route and PM me your account details so I can assist. Capped accounts are performing very well at the moment so your issue could with your line.

I would recommend the Business account as the quality of bandwidth is better and less shaping.

Has your account experience improved?

did a speedtest last night on it,was still the same,but youtube etc was a lil bit better :)

support hooked me up with a test cap account 15gb,so im useing that and its very good :)
i'll move to cap,but just the idea of a cap drives me crazy,will feel like i am always limited,atlest with the starts etc ,i wont go caped and bit more freedom :)

maby u guys should start offering softcap,128kbps after cap is reached,will work alot in your favor

or maby do 265,as every ones offer 128,you guys will be ahead of them all,and may even attract more ppl to your cap accounts

Business uncapped and Home capped should perform the same though.

Something obviously isn't right then.

A capped account is your best bet based on your needs and we do have a news server at news.wa.co.za.

What are you planning to do mostly with your account i.e: browsing, streaming, P2P/NNTP etc and when do you intend on using the connection, business or after hrs? Also why are you moving away from a capped account?
 
Hey WebAfricaHelper. Left 2 messages on support (guess was afterhours each time) regarding moving from afrihost to you guys (line rental + uncapped account), but noone's replied :/
I was just querying the process to follow as they say to let the line fall to telkom and then it'll take up to 3 weeks for you guys to take it back from them.

I have already initiated cancellation with Afrihost and just wanna know the steps to follow now to be up and running come 1 December with you guys with minimal downtime. When I tried to sign up for the package, even though I said "start it next month" I was still met with a Pro rata billing rate for this month...which does not make sense.

Maybe someone here can help me? :)

I Have just spoken to our engineers who advised they have implemented a fix so any new cases will need to be investigated on a case-by-case basis.
