Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Hi Zewp,

What was the fault? If it was a line issue our team should be providing you with a credit for the downtime.

The fault is that you're avoiding my question. How do you justify charging people full price for something you admit you cannot deliver. You have admitted that a fault on your upstream provider's network is causing users on your network to get service that is well below what it should be. How then do you get away with charging users the same amount for service levels that are below what they are supposed to receive.

If you could answer the question for me, that would be great. :)

IPC Issues is the fault everybody is referring to in Cape Town.

WA isnt the only ISP effected, I think its CW, Axxess, Afrihost and WA. Telkom have said a 2 week resolution last week so should all come together before the weekend hopefully?

We're getting perfectly acceptable 4MB speeds on Axxes (MTN as far as I'm aware) and OpenWeb (IS) and WebAfrica has confirmed that they're having upstream provider issues.

I would love to know the answer to this too.
Also why can't I just cancel and leave because I'm not getting what I paid for , instead I have to wait another month and pay for a service you cannot deliver.

This really makes no sense.

Ok my bad, not Afrihost/Axxess.

If you are in CPT and using Openweb you will be effected as far as I know. Telkom needs to provision more IPC to IS, which is in the process. So IS network in CPT is pretty borked right now. Limited to about 2mb.

I'm in CPT on Openweb and no issues my side. I'm actually downloading a bunch of games to play on my upcoming holiday.

Agreed. I was given a test account to play with yesterday and while CW and WA could only achieve 480p video quality on YT the OW account easily achieved 1080p.

You must be one of the elite 1% of OW clients to have a service that's actually capable of opening more than just Google. :o

Its a trap...

Is there a known ETA for this? Its now unberable to even browse.. Web Africa rep, any news?

Then maybe customers must make a best effort attempt to pay their bills in full. Except that would likely just end up with the customer being blacklisted.

Ah, ISPs in South Africa. The industry of c)nts.

I don't think that's entirely fair. It's a regulated and competitive market, Web Africa are pretty decent. I think the last part of your comment should be directed at mobile operators.

Another evening of excellent performance on business capped!

Morning Everyone,

We know that this issue is extremely frustrating and not ideal but I can assure everyone we're doing everything we can to speed up the IPC upgrade in CPT. The issue is out of our hands at the moment, as the upgrade was requested from Telkom well before the issue hit the critical levels it is at the present moment but due to technical issues on their end there is a delay in completing the upgrade in CPT.

We hoping for Telkom to complete the upgrade this week but we're waiting for final confirmation from them. I will keep everyone updated as soon as we get this confirmation.

Hi Zewp & Voyager73,

Apologies for misunderstanding the question. ADSL in SA is a best effort service and the problem here is not directly with us as we picked up the issue well before it reached this stage and requested that Telkom upgrade JHB and CPT IPC to ensure that we can avoid this unfortunate situation. They were able to do the JHB upgrade but due to technical issues the CPT upgrade is delayed.

At this stage we are not able to process any refunds or credits but as per my previous reply we hoping to get confirmation from Telkom that the upgrade will go through this week but due to back and forth we've had with them we cannot say this with absolute certainty. We'll keep everyone updated with more info around this and would really hate it for our customers to leave us because of this but I know once the upgrade has gone through everyone will be happy again. So please bear with us.

For the past few weeks I've been getting horrendous speeds on torrents during daytime hours on a capped package. Is WebAfrica now shaping capped accounts as well? :erm:

We've always prioritised our capped accounts and P2P/NNTP traffic is deprioritised during business hrs.

And browsing is just down the crapper atm. Its absolutely ridiculous that I can't even open a website.
