Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Just canceled my redafrica account with WA. It was a difficult decision as it was a good deal for the price, but I am just fed up with WA. So come end of June (have to give a calendars month notice) i am in the market for an ADSL account with another provider any recommendations

best is to get a trail account and test them.
Openweb or mweb.

You specifically looking for capped or uncapped ?

I will probably get some test accounts. Still thinking about capped/uncapped as with redafrica i had 30gigs which I never really used up, but then it might have been my mindset as well limiting myself so i don't go over the cap.

Same here

Hi Guys,

I'm experiencing the exact same issues as reported by other users. Pages load halfway, some sites not accessible, dog slow. My issues started about a week ago.

Traceroutes to these sites show no issues at all.

I have a redafrica account which was super value for money, but my internet is almost unusable at the moment.

Same here, but i just canceled mine, as I am fed up with WA, had to admit it was a super deal, but sometimes you have to cut your losses

So to which ISP will you go moklet? Please share any good deals you come accross, as I am also going to cancel my WA account.

AFAIK afrihost's cap is very good. Might not be the case still, but worth a try. For uncapped you need to select the least evil one that is working best for you... either openweb or mweb I would say.

A trail is something you follow in WoW. A trial is a test of sorts.

MWEB all the way, organising my old man a trial account after he Skyped me last night complaining of WA for the umpteenth time.

Dear Jeff,

I see a lot of complaints here and on the WA forums about these issues. The standard response seems to be "There are no reported issues" or "The ADSL guys say everything is fine". Please do us a favour:

1. Go home tonight and test a redafrica account on your own ADSL line, heck you can even borrow my account.
2. Go to some of the sites users suggested, even mybroadband is giving issues.
3. Test your experience and evaluate for yourself if there are issues or not. As a customer representative don't just veto your customers because technical dept. is saying there aren't any issues. They are bull****ting you, go find out for yourself.
4. Report back your findings.
5. Depending on your response on #4 and how WA is going to handle the issue, expect to lose more customers (or not).

Regards,

- twiga

They've already lost quite a few customers because of this lack of support and communication from their side and Jeff, the standard PM you their client code response is getting old fast seeing that the issues being reported aren't limited to a single user but to every one that uses your network.

Some great posts above and lots of truth in them. Yep, those standard response. Basically WA tells us there is no problem, so the problems we have must not be thier fault. Maybe they hope that by telling us there are no problems, that that will make the problems go away :)

I actually think that WA is trying to get rid of all of us who have the red africa / MY BB specials. They are great deals for what one pays, and I am sure with all the hassles / losses etc they are having, just get rid of us and some problems go away. Maybe that is just a conspiracy theory on my behalf

Anyway just to say that I have a MWeb 1 meg uncapped, so to those who are saying - what to do, where to go. Based on my short experience - overall great value for money. Is it perfect - no? Is it better for browing than my WA account - YES!! I have appreciated that when I have had concerns, they have been dealt with without any excuses / justifications / promises etc. Just let's sort it out. I can live with hassles from time to time if things get resolved quickly and profesionally and is my experiences so far of the odd glitch I have had

Would I recommend MWeb - for sure, and yes it is only based on a few weeks, but so far, so good

Unusable today !

No better today :-(

Likewise here -- MyBB starts the page and then just hangs -- other sites hardly load at all. ( Now using my Telkom account -- which NEVER fails )

Seems to me that the shaping -- whatever they using -- is misconfigured -- unless they just want to get rid of us all ?

I hate churn -- but maybe time to cut losses and get another Telkom account -- maybe a SAIX one ?
