Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Thanks guys. Been a fairly happy customer of Cybersmart for a year now until some recent change which affects some sources in XBMC. Got a trial home Uncapped account from AH and all I can say is that after using them over a year ago the quality of their service has seriously deteriorated.

but AH don't do trial accounts.

Well the amount of posts in this thread compared to Afrihost's should speak volumes to everyone! Afrihost is on "part 3" of their uncapped feedback thread, as the previous 2 parts were filled up with complaints.... This is thread 1 of general ADSL feedback. Makes me wonder why I ever went with Afrihost in the first place.

Yes, a quiet thread is a happy thread :D

Is it just me or is the billings / account department very poorly run?

I sent an email a few days ago as they have not sent me my June invoice and want payment. It takes over two days for them to respond and then they don't send the invoice even though I quite clearly asked for it.

This really can't be good for WA

Downloads between 00:00 and 06:00 don't count towards your thresholds.

He's talking about capped.

I do know that WA actively shapes, but when I read WA's AUP, nowhere do I read about time slots nor thresholds.

Apparently I've missed a source for such information or am not looking in the right places. (If so I'd appreciate a source!) Or maybe this info is common knowledge amongst peers in this forum.

For sure ISPs are rife with arcane terminology - thresholds, throttling, shaping, soft caps, uncapped* and their ilk.

Apologies for the reply earlier. I just had a proper look and it does seem to be an issue from our network side that has been fixed.

Please let me know if you still having problems.

Hi,

We don't have any specific info on our shaping times but it's common knowledge that Business hrs are weekdays between 7am-6pm then 6pm to 11:59pm and weekends is after-hours and 12-6am is our download plus period.

Thanks, seems fine again yes. Got distracted by offline tasks long enough to almost forget about it.

Currently on holiday and noticed how severely my capped account was being shaped during the day.Could only get 200 KB/s on usenet. At 5pm it automatically jumped to 1000 KB/s.
Would appreciate some feedback from WA on this because if I can only use 20% of my line during business hours for downloads I will definitely be cancelling.Such shaping on a capped account seems very harsh.

Or you could get Netflix for day time movies and series.

Is that legal yet in SA? Been curious to get other forms of entertainment. Will Netflix be affected by shaping?

The whole reason I'm on Web Africa is because Netflix performance is brilliant. Way better than Afrihost. Twitch as well.

Our market is too small for Netflix to come officially so I use Unotelly.

You should check out the links in my sig.
