Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Hi again everyone, so it just took me half an hour to load this page just to post this on my WA home uncapped account (sitting on 3 stars). Aside from the abysmally slow connection during the day, playing for example dota 2 during the day was fine until earlier this week, now whenever I try to play a single match before 17:00 I'll just auto-dc for about 20 seconds, then nothing will move for about another minute, and then the auto-dc will just start again.

I should also not talk about accessing the WA webpage, because it keeps failing to load, WTH is going on WA?

Hi,

The Home Uncapped service has the lowest priority on our network and it's even worse when you're on 3 stars because that means your connection is de-prioritised until there's enough capacity on the network. Having said that, to move away from the star rating and de-prioritisation, I'd recommend that you move to a Home Capped service.

So I signed up for a business capped account. All works good. I found WoW lags a bit more than on other ISPs but its still fairly good. I get between 280 and 380 lag which is ok for my 2MB line. Is this normal however?

Hi Isengard,

Regular activities or protocols are not shaped (streaming, emails and browsing etc) the only protocols that are shaped are NNTP, P2P and general downloading.

A quick look at the testmy result tells a different story. I know of another person who is on a capped account that is experiencing the exact same issue, anything that is using http is being very obviously limited to 200KB/s. We are both using 10Mb accounts.

@WebAfrica Helper - pm me, you did not take payment this month, still shows unpaid on my account and no one seems to care.

Should I just take this one on the house and close my account before you wake up?

Can I say something please......
Why not taking away all your uncapped products, and just keep capped then everyone will be happy. I had a 1 gig free account for testing, everything went so well, and I joined WA. And now, torrents at 45kb/ps, and my son says Youtube during the day is ****. Funny, as soon as they have your money, they don't give a **** if you happy or not. All they say is "if you unhappy, move to CAPPED.
So why the hell advertising uncapped knowing that the speed is going to be below par????????
This doesn't ,ake sense at all. I'm WA user for my first month, but moving away end of month, not even worried about your stupid 30day unhappy thing you mention on your website. We are so use to get screwed in South Africa, nothing really matters.

But this is my opinion, and I know it falls on death ears, but anyway, cheers.

Chris

WA support

My line has been dropping a few times and this morning twice it just dies, so at 06:42 I call WA support.

I get the support menu and choice ADSL and the message says "Our support hours are from 06:00 to 00:00 etc " and the line goes dead.

Well either the support staff all over slept or - more likely - someone has not got their facts straight / updated

Poor show WA - surely this is simple business basics / good customer support.

I can now understand why their is so much negativity towards support which really can't be helping WA at all

This is from the website:
If you would prefer to chat to one of our expert support and sales agents please call us between 6am and midnight

Hi Fulton17,

Sorry to hear that you couldn't get through to support this morning. I'm going to investigate this issue with the relevant team because our lines should have been working at that time. Please PM me your contact details so I can get our guys to call you back.

Support was non existent here too.

Do you block certain ports on your network?

I've just opened a 5Gb test account with Web Africa after becoming frustrated with Afrihost. I've so far found Web Africa to be much much better in terms of speed than Afrihost however I now want to open a larger account with Web Africa as I use my ADSL for streaming Netflix and Hulu content. On average I use about 100Gb+ per month on my 4Mbps line and I don't know if a home uncapped ADSL account is the way to go or should I go for a capped account of about 120Gb? From past experience with uncapped accounts they tend to be heavily shaped so things run slower. On the other hand 120Gb + 480Gb after midnight may be the better option.
Can anyone please advise me?

Always go with Capped over uncapped.

WA Uncapped is star rated, so as soon as you hit 3 stars and below, good bye any streaming, downloading etc.

I'm very happy with my capped account. I stream 720p from youtube quite easily on my 4Mbps line.
