Web Africa Slow Browsing - Tuesday 2nd August 2011 **RESOLVED**

Morning guys,

We've noticed a fairly large spike in our call centre this morning.
For the guys who are having issues, please provide tracert results to:

  • bbc.co.uk
  • cnn.com

This will help us pin-point any issues on our network.

Thanks mrlgm007 :)

The info is appreciated. Can you let me know what's happening when you try and browse? Is it just slow or is there any visible, intermittent packet loss on your connection?

Yes my internet on WA is really slow. Trace routes below

Hhhmm, this is very weird :/
We've been running a few tracert's from our test box which sits on a 8Mbps ADSL line, no issues there. And these tracert's look OK too.

Are you guys using DNS at all?

Are you guys using DNS at all? What do you mean with that exactly ? I am using the DNS provided by the DHCP for the DSL. Yes i agree these tracerts looks fine but can't get any throughput maxing out at about 2.6kbps from international sources

Hi

The dns i am useing is

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 196.220.59.188
196.220.59.189

The site's opens fine my side no issues @ all.

opened a few pages loading one time as all ways with WA BW....

Hello WAJeff

I have my own reseller realm with WebAfrica and I have a client who is having web browsing problems too. The client is based in Illovo, Johannesburg.

According to the client, email delivery appears to be working correctly - but browsing websites seems to be displaying "page cannot be found" errors.

The ADSL router is configured to use the WebAfrica DNS servers via DHCP (automatic).

Unfortunately, I cannot provide any traceroutes because I support the client from a remote location - and they are not capable of doing it for me...

Let us know if your engineers have managed to find the problem?

The ping response is OK but mostly everything else is shocking.
When it can't query the name server everything fails, page not found etc.

I've tried using other DNS servers but to no avail.

My WA experience today has been bad as well. I can barely browse at all, and Steam refuses to believe I am even online.

Here are my tracert results (had to switch to back and forth between WA and Axxess accounts because I can't even post this on my WA account):

Herp :(

Well I can not even connect and after 7 minutes of holding for support was told there is a problem; engineers investigating and no idea of what is causing the problem or when it will be resolved. :(

Thankfully I do have Afrihost to back me up :)

Hey guys,

We have an escalations list to see if we can possibly pin-point the issue. At this stage (as you can imagine) the list is fairly long :( I more than understand that this is frustrating and is by no means seen as acceptable to have these types of issues for this length of time.

Between our ADSL and Network Management Teams - we're constantly talking to each other to see what the issue may be. Troubleshooting an issue of this size can take some time, however I can promise you that we're doing our utmost to have things sorted out ASAP.

Don't worry about it, man; we trust you. Why else would you be voted best ISP?

Morning everyone,

Just to keep you guys updated, the issues experienced yesterday were related to our shaping device.
All issues experienced yesterday should be sorted out. Can you guys confirm?

Thanks Jeff - will check when I get home this afternoon.

My problems though not reported (as I saw the issues here) were sorted out. Using the 4Mbit business uncapped.
