web africa crawling

Yeah, something is definitely wrong with the WA network today. Very erratic.

Also, I've noticed they are throttling the NS during the day lately.

I reckon its a peering issue:
Code:
C:\Users\HX>ping www.google.com

Pinging www.google.com [196.23.168.147] with 32 bytes of data:

Thanks for bringing this up.
We have noticed a lot of queries with regards to our network today - as I'm sure you can see even on here, threads have been popping up with regards to poor latency and degraded speeds.

As mentioned in my post here we are waiting on final confirmation as to the finer details.

With regards to the News Server being shaped/throttling during the day - I do know that this was the case a few weeks ago due to network degradation. I stand under correct, however according to my knowledge this has been or was lifted. I'll confirm for you and get back to you on this in a few minutes :)

Thanks again for being so patient here guys, it really is appreciated! We'll be looking into many methods and preventative measures once this is resolved that I can assure you!

Also having WA speed and latency issues. Also, with regards to News server downloads, it refuses to download at all for a while now. Never had issues like that a while back and downloads would fly.

Have no issues like any of the above on my Telkom account except for the obvious slow news server downloads during peak hourse on uncached items

aaaaaaargh - do you know what you're doing to me. I've just signed up with WA:sick:

They're normally quite good, but of late, and especially past two or three days it would have been faster to use dial-up. Have also had some DNS issues my end, where the system won't recognise the address unless I use the IP address, like 196.245. etc.

To touch on the News Server again - this is still being shaped during office hours.
What is your speed variation during office hours vs. after hours?

afrihost is working fine.

Exactly the same. If I'm lucky I'll get full speed download. Otherwise I only get article errors on WA.

Now my WA account not working at all, using my telkom local at the moment

Ditto murraybiscuit. *sigh*

I spoke too soon. Thought it might be Telkom magically fixing my line, but WA account is dead and Afrihost is working. Usually this is the other way around :P

Hi WAJeff

I understand that you are shaping news servers during work hours but why do you shape: 41.208.46.100

This is IP that I have to connect to get data for stock trading. If you need more info you can go here: http://www.dwt.co.za/tradingsoftware.php

There are another few people on WA that experienced same problem. Please go check this as well: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/275258-Port-forwarding-again

Please help this IP should be opened freely.

Usually its like 20KBish and then jumps to line speed after hours. Other days its full line speed whole day. Yesterday(or day before, can't remember) it was like 5KBish for a while & fluctuated a lot. I don't think its a load issue since when its at 20ish it stays there fairly consistently.

The NS speed isn't a major issue for me though...I'll just let it run overnight.

Oh, and still getting occasional 403 article not found errors. One of them I checked w/ Garyvdh and he said they are working on his paid NS sub...not sure which one he uses.

Ya, went down for a while. Back up but still getting appalling speeds. Can't comment about after hours as this is a work line.

Hi WA, my FTP has been crawling for the last few weeks or so (during working hours). I'm a web developer so I use it alot, and have to switch to my backup Afrihost account to actually get the upload speeds I should be getting.

AFAIK, HTTP & FTP protocols are given the top priority, so I shouldn't be getting such slow speeds unless the WA network isn't coping right?

WA - sort this out please! Getting a full 22kb/s on a 7Mbit line. 15GB Titan Capped account. Sucks.
