Webafrica, can you please give us some feedback?
There is something terribly wrong with your network.

Hey guys,

I'll be posting an official update on the latency and speed issues here shortly.

That will be nice but now I'm much more concerned about the mail issue, that is a far greater problem than having slow internet.

thats subjective.. those of us that use internet for our business.. having slow internet does have a direct impact as well... overall mail/internet.. the problem needs to be resolved... and answers need to be given.

True yes, I should have said "for me".

The most annoying thing about Web Africa which I have found is that they are bull sh**ing you . If you have a problem say so . The same story happened with Afrihost in the past .
As far as I am concern this is my last month with Web Africa .
Why waste time arguing with support . If all your systems are on Google and Google apes just move on .

Care to explain the packetloss?

Hi all,

Please see an updated response with regards to the latency issues here

Ok while i can agree with the first option. The second option is total hogwash, the majority of players in wow have been getting the patches from friends. Blaming a game for your companies short comings is just a total joke. and windows updates??? i mean seriously now. Whoever your network engineers are i seriously think you need new ones. Windows updates happen weekly sometimes more so. The windows updates have passed, and so has the wow patches. I am NOT in the southern subburbs, and my exchange is fine, i even phoned telkom to confirm and do the diagnostics invovled. Yet when using WA i still get packetloss on international links.

So i would suggest you update your Status ticker on your site to state:

"customers will experience degraded service due to World of Warcraft Patches, and Windows Updates"

Lets throw some telkom in there for beef

"customers will experience degraded service due to World of Warcraft Patches, and Windows Updates, Telkom"

And some uncapped users

"customers will experience degraded service due to World of Warcraft Patches, and Windows Updates,Telkom and Uncapped Users"

WA's service used to be amazing, as was their gaming products. But that was last year, you will have to excuse my frustration i just like many other consumers are tired of paying for products that do not perform. (I have even tried the unshaped account, packet-le-loss)

Hi all,

Please see an updated response with regards to the latency issues here

Which is...

Hi All

Some feedback on the network speed and latency issues experienced this week. First off, to clarify this was caused due to two reasons:

1. Packet loss and congestion on Telkom ADSL Exchanges, specifically in the South Suburbs around Cape Town.
2. Increased traffic on our network due to large Microsoft's security updates and Blizzards 5GB+ update for World of Warcraft.

Despite recent network improvements, this sudden and significant spike in traffic did impact our network. We have some upgrades and improvements planned for the 2 weeks, which we are now in the process of accelerating.

Thank you to everyone who has given their feedback, as always, it is extremely useful. We will continue to provide information as we progress.

Can you provide some more clarification on the issues ?

Hi Jeff,

Still struggling to see the connection between ADSL congestion in Cape Town and the latency I am experiencing in Pretoria ?

Also it looks like some changes have occurred to FTP traffic shaping the network - was enjoying an average 150KB/s download speed now at best its 20Kb/s ?

Can you advise if there have been changes to QoS settings for your shaped data packages or if Telkom have modified their QoS settings.

One key reason for using WebAfrica was the quality of the connection, the current issues are really forcing me to review what till now has been a great service and migrate away.

Sorry

Ye rofl, cant believe they say wow patches - it obviously makes sense to people who know 0 about how ISP's work.

Just when I thought it could not get worse...

Hard to believe but performance worse than yesterday. Will someone please put forward a technically credible explanation for why international traffic is soooooooooooooo slow.

Must admit, I'm having no problems in Pta. Downloaded a whole bunch of upgrades at a very satisfactory speed.
