Web Africa - THE WORST HOSTING!

Hi Andy,

I am glad to hear that you have found a fix to this. Unfortunately the engineer who had disabled the component is still investigating as to whether we can perhaps enable this, however enabling this component does pose a security risk on our servers. I have been told that an explanation will be provided tomorrow with regards to this.
I have also responded to your ticket that has been opened.

Agreeably, there should have been prior notification to this being disabled, I have marked this as a project and will hopefully be implemented.

Kind Regards,

Hi Jeffrey,

I am definitely no questioning the need for security or the risk from the curl_exec command.

I've decided to cancel my SA Linux Reseller Hosting with Web Africa.

I've been given a bull**** answer once too many times now. I think their ADSL account facility is wonderful especially the ability to auto top-up but the hosting has been a headache for the last 4 years or so.

They may be getting better upstream bandwidth and better pricing on the hosting but the unskilled technicians still remain.

YMMV

Hi hilton,

I am troubled to hear that you have decided to cancel with us due to the support levels Web Africa has provided. This is definitely not the level of support we strive and push to achieve at Web Africa. If you could please PM me your client code so I can review your account to see where our agents have gone wrong as well as any server issues, if any, have played a roll in this.

I would like to investigate this immediately for you in order for it not to occur again. I would also like to take the time to apologise for the experience you have had, particularly with regards to the hosting accounts.
I hope we can work together and making your experience a better one.

Kind Regards,

I'm beginning to agree with the title of this thread.
I dont have hosting at WebAfrica, but just a domain registration. I asked you guys to change my nameservers, and you happily change ALL my details to your company details. My email address, street address, postal address, phone numbers all now point to WebAfrica. The only thing thats still mine is the field with my name...

Guess its time to move my domain as well.

Hi Linkinpark

It is troubling to hear about your experience. We always strive to provide the best support and service we possibly can. If you could please PM me your client code and contact details in order for me to investigate where this went so wrong and if there are any other outstanding issues unresolved.

I do apologize for what has happened and the way it was handled.

I hope I can assist you in creating a better experience at Web Africa.

Hi linkinpark

The domain administrator just came to me to inform me that he has resolved your query. I will monitor the update myself and after 24 hours I will check to see if everything went through smoothly with the update.

Once again, I do apologize for the inconvenience and concerned this has caused you.

I also had issues with Web Africa's linux hosting for a site belonging to a friend of mine. I set up a Joomla site for them, ran fine for a couple of weeks until the user rights to the directories were changed by their "Linux Engineer" who basically made the whole site read only. I was unable to run any scripts/install any new software on the box and when I spoke to the call centre monkey was told that it was not necessary to run backup scripts on the server and they would do backups for me if I wanted. After fighting with the guys for a few hours I asked for their Linux sys admin to phone me which he never did.

Needless to say I advised my friend to move to another hosting company.

FYI - I managed to restore a previously backed up version of the site to Godaddy without any issues.

I also spoke to the guys in the Joomla user group and had a lot of negative comments regarding Web Africa from them as well. They were invited to comment by SAJUG but never received any further comment from them.

Thanks, he told me he will personally monitor the update as well. We will see in about 21 hours if everything is back to normal :)

It's a serious problem because I can't get in to top-up accounts. So when a customer runs out of allocated traffic their internet access will cease to exist.

What I can get off their site when working:

There is currently a local networking issue on the SAIX network.
All clients on the SAIX network may experience slow access to all local servers
Telkom technicians are attending.
ETR: Unknown
Affected: National

One of our upstream providers are experiencing connectivity issues.
A large percentage of our hosting infrastructure is affected by this.

Our engineers are working with the our upstream provider to resolve the issue.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
