Hmm I for one are one of those "suckers" who try to find a balance between what I perceive to be a reliable ISP, and good pricing. For this reason I am not an Afrihost client, simply because I cannot afford to have my business hang with no internet for a day or two, on the off chance that the ISP can't handle the goods. In no way am I inferring that Afrihost can't, but in my book they have not proven themselves to take the chance. That is my opinion and yes, I am willing to pay a bit more for the piece of mind. As they say: "once bitten, twice as shy". This piece of mind I get from ISPs like WebAfrica and Axxess, even though they cost a bit more than others.

I am just as disappointed as everyone else, but I guess they have to do what they have to do in order to cover short, mid, and long term goals. For me, Axxess has the better pre-paid local for topping up, and OpenWeb the best value on their 30GB local accounts. I hope WA can match or better it in future, but for now, I wish them luck on their journey.
 
Waited for over a year for them to adjust their prices and this is the best they could come up with. Sending through my 4 cancellations.
 
Tell you what - I will personally give (at the end of this month) R2 (That's a whole two rand) to anyone who drops WA for a cheaper host.

Now you're losing R1 if you stay on WA.
 
hahaha i'd like to know how many customers they've just lost... After the 30gig thing last week I was really excited for this announcement... I knew it wasnt going to be 30gig for R200 but I really thought they were going to come in with some really good prices + WAGE service + steam content server for free.. WA would be on top. This announcement was fail in everyway.
 
Sorry but FAIL on the car analogy, data is data, VAS make up the difference I suppose, but a windows update at 4mbps for WA or Afrihost is the same damn thing buddy.

How do you measure reliability? I have been on Afrihost for quite a while now (since sometime late last year I forget the month) and I don't really recall the last time my interwebs went down. If you are not able to provide evidence that WA is more reliable than other providers then I suggest you refrain from commenting on reliability.

I'm intrigued about this luxury you mentioned though. Does your ADSL come with heated seats and those multiple preset positions for the driver's seat? Is that where the luxury comes in? Perhaps those little wipers on the headlights?

Those sort of things are nifty, but I also like plenty of cupholders. Does your ADSL have cupholders Joe? How long is the maintenance plan on your Mercedes ADSL?

As with everything at Web Africa these days, their mouthes are bigger than their brains... thus.. the programmers usually take their sweet-ass time to update pricing.... but having said that, this announcement is for the 1st of March onwards... not effective immediately

Maybe the next special will only apply to 100 myBB members who did not speak ill of WA during the dreaded February 15 incident. Failing that, there is always Pascal's Wager.
 
Whilst the cuts were not as drastic as we would have liked, it is a step in the right direction.

I only stay with WA for the convenience of their online account management site. If I find another ISP with a comparative online experience, credit card payments and cheaper prices, I will move.

Maybe because when Telkom upped their 5gb accounts it was for more than 1gb?

Yeah um WA had at least 4-5 authentication issues (I'm assuming some fail Radius being the cause) last year with a good 4-5 hour each time and one in particular that went on a fair bit longer than that. So yeah maybe their network is reliable, but their auth sure isn't.

Afrihost has all this... online account management, top ups, auto top ups, payment by CC (or indeed debit order) etc.

Did that not happen anyway with the recent SAT-3 problems?

As I said earlier in this thread - it's best if handle the redundancy issue yourself by having accounts on each backbone. The ISPs have been selling this redundancy line for yonkers now, and when push came to shove, they failed to deliver on it.

Afrihost.

I pay by credit card and have only ever dealt with their web interface for top ups post sign up.
 
Drat. After the 30GB for R199 promo (which, sadly, I missed) I'd really expected great things from the pricing. This is a massive disappointment.
 
These 'new' value added services like free gaming and steam would be unncessary if we could get a good basic product out of WA. Web Africa is dead to me, seem to be heading in the wrong direction.

agressive my bum... and YES the industry has changed overnight, it was just a night a few months ago... so if a small player like AFRIHOST can launch something below cost, surely a big player like u can match it at least until they go bankrupt?

WA is just pathetic...

P.S. if u want to talk rubbish at least think about it before hand so that it makes sense...
