We are looking for a front-end developer with 2-5 years experience and skills in PHP, HTML, CSS and Javascript for building highly customized applications for a variety of clients. Additional experience with SQL and frameworks such as Symfony 2 is a bonus.

In this position you will be developing administrative portals for native app back-ends as well as typical website development.

Summary of skills required:
• At least 2 - 5 years’ experience in relevant IT position
• Experience with: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, JSON and web frameworks such as Symfony

Other Criteria
• Ability to teach oneself new technology
• Team player but also be able to work without supervision
• Ability to document a solution

Although the OP should be applauded for actually posting a salary , he may find he gets no one of any quality at the stated price. A more realistic figure for this job is R21,000 to R26,000.

What kind of candidate are you looking for that R20 000 would be appealing to him/her? Someone that's only managed to get to 18k after 5 years? I understand your budget is your budget and the 2 year min is to weed out the newbies etc but I guess the 5yr is an optimistic upper limit.

I suppose you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t post a salary. @retromodcoza I appreciate the feedback and based on all the other feedback, i’ve adjusted the salary accordingly.

@rorz0r you are correct, the 5 year upper limit is optimistic but having interviewed many candidates its become clear that having 4-5 years experience doesn’t immediately mean you should be earning a higher salary, maybe i’ve just had rotten luck with candidates? In any case, one of the criteria I specifically omitted was the requirement of a degree or similar qualification, based on this I feel it isn’t ludicrous to offer what I was offering.

To those who responded negatively, I’m genuinely curious if you were here out of interest of the job opportunity and felt insulted by the offering to respond the way you did?

All things aside, I appreciate all feedback and based on that (as stated above) I’ve adjusted the offering.

Pretty normal fare and at least they put a timeline on it.

Not like a certain large international cloud services provider that got back to me after three months post telephonic interview after I had taken another job and was then suprised that i wasn't available or interested.

Worse to me would be a company who doesn't state that.

I do have an honours degree in computer science, but after 3 years of work experience, I was earning R25k. This was back in 2010. Adjust for inflation and it would probably be closer to R30k.

Good on you for adjusting the salary range. 2-5 years is quite a wide range of experience, so perhaps a salary range of R12k to R30k (the maximum you are willing to pay under any circumstances) would be decent.

I suppose my concern is that sometimes companies have unrealistic concerns about how little candidates will be willing to accept. So, they spend 3 months interviewing candidates, but can't find one who is good enough to do the job and willing to accept R20k. Waste of interview time. Second, unfortunately bargains can be expensive. I've interviewed candidates claiming to be senior developers who couldn't program if their life dependend on it. So, even if you find someone who has 5 years of experience on paper, and is willing to accept R20k, they might not be able to do the job.
