I need some advice.I am starting in the web development business.I am also going the web hosting reseller route so that i can sell all in one package to clients. My question is should i also market hosting on the side. With so many web hosting companies is it worthit?I guess my only thing to offer if i just market the hosting is help with setting up your sites like wordpress etc.Thank you in advance.

It's about providing a better service than these bigger guys. 9 times out of 10 a R10 per month hosting package from one of the big guys is all someone needs. When something goes wrong however, if they know they have someone that always replies quickly and is always quick to resolve their issue, then they will be willing to pay the R50/R100 per month.

Had it this morning that a client I made a website for said they were having issues with their mail. Said sorry can't help you, you're hosted with Afrihost so it's not my problem.

You can also do stuff like a mini SLA where you can throw in 5 website updates per month for x amount. Works well with those clients that want small changes often but don't have the skills to do it themselves.

+1

you need to offer a 'niche' that the big, cheap guys dont, that will make it worth while for a potential client to pay the extra..

Still quite a few people signing up to random / small companies to host their stuff. Well worth it if you can support it as well

El cheapos packages - should be only to folks/companies who have some knowledge of webz....you can't afford to provide free support! At R10.00 p/m....
Better to get about 500 - 1000 small companies @ R35 - 50 pm and support them totally, VOIP & mail - and as Vamp says, with mini sla's to be profitable.
