Web sQuad ISP - Feedback Thread #2

Is anyone else having an issue with Spotify buffering, a lot? Have to connect to my VPN to listen lol. I can't find routes to trace because it seems to be all over the place, any suggestions @websquadza

All devices or specific devices? Let me check my side and see if I pick up anything.

Phone, mac and desktop. The lag is starting on the VPN as well, so I'm assuming there is a bad route to ZA or something

Morning, I'm having problems with my router.
See picture below. This is when I try to log into my router.
Asus Router.jpg

Any suggestion to overcome problem.
Did follow problem on YouTube to correct this in windows operating system.
Did a factory reset on router. Then it seems ok. Then it comes back.
Once I save a post on the forum it takes forever, Cloudflare comes to mind.

Asus RT-AX86U router.

yeah its mwebs shitty CDN's I've blocked the entire 197.80.x.x subnet and forcing to grab the files internationally and seems better.
Spotify's support was useless as they dont seem to understand beyond "format everything and try again"
Deezer also had this issue using mweb cdn's

Wait teach me pls. Could you do this in Spotify's settings or was it a QOS configuration on your router?

Depending on your router you can block at firewall level on most routers, you can block that entire subnet 197.80.0.0/16(197.80.1.1 to 197.80.255.255) or each induvial ip you can get, read further on how to do that, and set your dst ip as affected devices

I'm using a mikrotik to manage this myself which makes it a little easier, hell you can even do some layer7 REG-EX stuff too and auto block mweb cdn with below reg-ex on urls.

But beware that if you block this subnet like this you do have potential to block other servers using that ip range
I personally didn't have any issues, something to beware of is all

I use a tool called netlimiter to grab ips that are used by applications.
but you can resource monitor in windows and filter the spotify.exe process and look under the network tab and record all the 197.80.x.x ips used by spotify.exe and block them individually more tedious but its little safer that you don't inadvertently block other services, atleast shrink the possibilities of affecting other applications.

You can try block it at device level for devices that have firewall rules such as windows firewall but I couldn't get this to work, window trash.

if you have your dns server such as such a pihole you can try block the domain instead 197-80-130-67.jhb.mweb.co.za and try intergrate reg-ex wild cards for ips so something like this:
Code:
 ^197\-80\-\*\-\*\.jhb\.mweb\.co\.za$

but afaik you cant block within spotify app unfortunately

you could also try windows hosts file and point them to 127.0.0.1

I think this has something to do with WA migrating to dd's network (not the aquisition)- but putting strain on the optinet akamai cache. Let me know if the issue is still there and we will reach out to akamai.

Regarding blackholing a whole /16 of optinet's network; doesn't seem like a very healthy routing decision. There are a lot of other services hosted on these prefixes including large swathes of DD's datacentres

Do you perhaps have a static dns config on your computer? Try find your router's gateway IP and connect to the IP rather than rely on the built in dns resolution
