Web sQuad ISP - Feedback Thread #2

Hi @websquadza

I have a 1 Gbps @Frogfoot Fibre connection through WebSquad. However, when downloading from Steam and Usenet, my download speed is around **850 Mbps** and never goes higher than **900 Mbps**. My server and gaming PC are connected to the router via Ethernet cable.

Speed tests through **Ookla Speedtest** are usually around **930 Mbps**, which I guess is fine. But is that download speed normal behavior?

I’m currently using the **Ruijie RG-EW1300G router** from WebSquad.

Thanks for reaching out. IP overhead on a 1G Ethernet port is around 5%, and another 1-2% for PPPOE, so 930-940 Mbps is the most you're realistically going to see on a 1G Ethernet Interface, which is what you're using between your PC and Router and Router and ONT. So this is more of a Phy (physical interface) limitation than anything else.

Regarding the performance in Steam and Usenet, 850-900 Mbps accounts for protocol overhead and possibly some CPU load, specifically steam that tends to decompress while downloading.

in either case, running the below in Elevated Command Prompt helps windows better negotiate TCP windows, which is important for any latency overhead at 1 Gbps. Windows has some questionable TCP handling.

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

My internet went down around 15 minutes ago.

LOS light on the ont is blinking red
Evotel btw

Also down on my end - got an sms from Openserve confirming an outage

Norther Region: Openserve completed some major Chassis Maintenance task that did not go to plan. All ISP NNIs on the affected chassis were affected. Services have fully restored now.

Anyone seeing packet loss and disconnection on Openserve
