Hi all,

I am thinking of getting a webafrica capped account. Anyone have any good/bad experience with them? I am also looking for them to manage my line too. The package I am looking at is below with a 2mb line. I want to stream and general youtube/surfing. But kill the torrents and all during the late evenings. I am also open to any good suggestions.

450 GB
90GB anytime + 360GB from midnight – 6am

Thanks in advance.

I am looking at them as well except the 40GB + 160GB package as I live on my own and don't do torrents.

Hope you don't mind if ask as well but how are 2Mbps line for gaming with Webafrica?

Actually, it's a 90GB (18 hours - 6AM - 12AM/day). It might not be enough for your needs. Youtube eats bandwidth like a pig in ndlandla.

Last night I got capped so hard (Home Capped 150GB - R400 p/m)

So I upgraded my account to 200GB (Extra 50gb | R600 p/m <----- Ridiculous!). I'm not happy. I feel cheated to be honest. How the f did I get capped so quickly? I used to average around 100gb every month before I got this 150GB account. There's something wrong with my May usage chart. Will analyze it later tonight.

Which account you got?

200gb capped + 800gb to use after hours @ R599.00 per month.

Torrents during peak hours are throttled to around 10%-20% of max line speed but I do all the heavy lifting between 12am-6am where they run at between 70%-100% of max line speed.

The rest runs well although I haven't really tested nntp extensively during peak time. I suspect it runs at around 10%-20% same as torrents. Xbox live gaming good 8/10, Youtube good 8/10, email, web browsing excellent 9/10, skype good 8/10, facetime good 8/10, appstore updates excellent 9/10, file sharing sites IE rapidgator good 8/10, teamviewer good 8/10...

The product is reasonably good which is a relief because their support is hit and miss at the best of times!

Also their one months calendar notice policy is archaic and incredibly inconvenient if you not happy with the product and wish to cancel...

Thanks guys some real good info. Hopefully I can get the good end of the spoon and require no support and just have a decent connection.

I used the 2GB free Capped account from Webafrica this weekend. Pings (for gaming) was stable at 34ms, which isn't that great, but was stable. On Sunday I signed up for their 60GB + 240GB capped account thinking hey this seems good...

NOPE! Ping shot up to 150ms and bouncing between 60ms and 150ms! Absolutely furious when that happened!

I use the 60 gig anytime 240 gig after hours capped account on a 2meg line.

Get good download speeds and can stream decently as well, can watch a twitch stream on high without any issues.

Online latency for international games is between 170-190. My line is still with telkom however as it can often be beneficial to deal with Telkom directly.

I'm on 60GB/240GB home capped on my 4Mbps line. Everything works fine here. Just keep in mind P2P is shaped during business hours. Surfing during that time is fine though. Weekends when I do most of my youtubing, I have no issues, streamed 1080p after letting it buffer for 10 secs or so.

I started off with the 2Meg line and have now upgraded to 10Meg - 60GB + 240GB for R199 data + R376 line - total R575 incl VAT. Fortunately have had no problems with WebAfrica since I joined them - almost one year now.

Yup. People do that.

Surely that cannot be the only reason?...

Easier to get issues sorted.

Also when your ISP has your line and you want to switch, sometimes they cancel it completely. It's just not worth it.

Agreed.

Even though my line is managed with cybersmart I always contact telkom direct if I'm having issues. I don't find dealing with them a handicap. Use the right channels and procedures and they actually quite efficient.
