WebAfrica Capped ADSL

Streaming Netflix, BBC, SkyNews all struggling tonight.

MWeb on standard uncapped is fine. Your capped pro package so far is under the performance of Mweb uncapped standard.

Can you PM me your account details and I will ask our team to take a look.

Hi Soul Assassin,

No change on our Capped accounts on the cards at the moment. If any changes happen we will let our customers know :)

I was specifically asking about the jump from your offering at R399 to R599, why not add another account at R499?

Please tell me what "unable to authenticate" means.

My router won't connect (red light) and WA has a recorded message saying many people are "unable to authenticate". is that the error i have?

Tks

That means you used the wrong username and password.

Oh hell. So red light is something else. Hope I can get through to WA support :(

Tks Chevron

Still haven't managed to get through to WA. Anybody in the know pse advise when will be a good time to phone them. I don't mind phoning at 1:00 am if the phones are manned then. CW also seems to be going through a bad patch.

No plan to incorporate a package in between those two yet. But as soon as we make any changes we will let everyone know ;)

Since your 10Mbps uncapped fits between those two at R499 would you say that is a fair middle ground, I want about 140GB day time and the rest will be after midnight, will the 10Mbps uncapped work for that?

Maumau, are you still unable to connect?

The issue is due to Eskom load shedding so as long it continues the authentication issues will as well. Best thing to do is to switch router off for about 15 minutes and switch in on again. If that doesn't help we will need to do a port reset.

thank you WAH, I didn't try this morning but nothing worked last night.

if I log onto my account and go to the place where it says "disconnect current session" is that resetting the port? I'm trying to bypass the call centre.

Problems downloading from WA/IS news servers

I have a WA home capped account. Access is via a 20Mb line, which speed tests OK.

Until last week I was getting a solid 2MB download speed from the WA/IS news servers at pretty much at any time of the day.

Now I am getting 50Kb during the day, with around 600Kb after hours.

During one of the "discussions" with WA support it was mooted - by support - that access to the news servers was now being throttled.

Is anyone out there experiencing similar problems ?

I hope he/she (support) was making an attempt at a lame joke, because WA's capped accounts have been excellent. If they're going to throttle, I'll find another ISP. WA? We need some clarity.

Agree entirely, and said as much to the support staff :(

Have been using their capped account for about a year now.Unfortunately the last few months the speeds during business hours have been throttled quite severely.Have noticed the times when I am home that nntp runs at about 150 KB/s.Have not checked this month though.Only P2P is throttled though during business hours.Other services run at full speed.

I didn't use by WA account to its full potential yet this month. But if they start throttling/shaping NNTP between 12am and 6 am, I'll ditch it as my backup account. I am still waiting for my credit note after the billing issue of the first of this month.

My understanding - and experience - was that only P2P was throttled during the day, i.e. NNTP was open pretty much 24 hours a day.

My NNTP downloading - even during Download Plus time - has since midnight of the 3rd March slowed considerably, with the average speed for downloading a file (during Download Plus time) dropping to as low as 372Kb (according to SABnzbd).

During the day it now slows to below 70Kb.

If they have changed the rules WA are once more staying silent ... and are thereby screwing with a fantastic service that I have recommended to many.

I was going to sign up for an account with them next month as this latency debacle with afrihost is annoying.

So are the capped accounts going to be shaped?

Best ask WA's forum rep before you sign !

On the whole - for me - during DL+ time I have had a great experience with full line speeds (10meg) 95% + of the time
