WebAfrica Capped ADSL

I was going to sign up for an account with them next month as this latency debacle with afrihost is annoying.

So are the capped accounts going to be shaped?

Hey Mypro,

Yay, A thread that I don't get shouted at and might be able to help people in.

Webafrica's standard capped service is good, But not completely unshaped, P2P and news servers get shaped every now and then, the other option is the business capped.

Otherwise maybe have a look at crystalweb's products, Currently with them and very happy.

Haha Shot man.
I cancelled earlier on. I really didn't agree what was said to you and you can have a look at what I replied.
You can see quite a few guys rooting for you that side too!

Shot, ill give them a look and check it out. I've pretty much been with every ISP there is. All I want is fiber or Vdsl :(

Yes, I was monitoring the thread thoughout and wanted to post when I saw you guys posting there, But decided not to and leave them to feel bad about their actions.

Well drop me a PM with your line number and I can see whether your area is earmarked for VDSL or Fibre any time soon ;)

Thanks man, ill do that.
We still on an old exchange with the Marconi Mini Dslam so I don't think ill be changed anytime soon.
I have execellnt line stats but that doesnt really help :D

Hi! I was planning on moving to WA next as I have cancelled my Telkom this month.

The plan was to move to a capped solution with the anticipation of not being shaped. However, there seem to be a couple of comments in the lasts few pages of this thread where people are talking about capped products being shaped. I am hoping that this is not the case...

WebA rep, could you please clarify current shaping policies on capped products? Thanks!

I am on a home capped account.

Though the WA staff appear to be reluctant to admit it, based on my personal performance monitoring I am pretty sure that my NNTP download traffic - which was previously unshaped - is now shaped during the day, but after 19h00 or so starts moving towards full speed.

The afterhours traffic (12am - 6am) is not shaped.

Personal experience is demonstrating that NNTP now has a profile similar to P2P

I would have no idea, I use Business Capped, so most to all protocols come across as unshaped all the time.
I pay a little bit more, but that was my choice to get the higher priority bandwidth.

I have just had a technician confirm that NNTP traffic for Home Capped is now shaped by IS.

Busy with a download now on nntp - getting 100 KB/s.Pretty consistent with results the past few months.

Hi Guys,

We do deprioritise NNTP & P2P traffic during business hours only (7am-5pm weekdays) on Home capped accounts and it's been like this since we moved over to our new backbone. I have addressed it a few times in the Webafrica General Feedback Thread.

We do this so that we can give priority to other protocols like VOIP, Browsing, gaming, VPN, etc which is the most important protocols needed during business hours. Everything goes back to normal after hours and if you are still experiencing issues then there is something else wrong that we need to investigate.

If you are having any issues outside of business hours please drop me a PM and I can take it up with our team.

Getting 250 KB/s on NNTP on a capped account right now after business hours. This is on a 10MB line.Time to kick WA to the curb and get a capped account that isn' t throttled.
Must say my Axxess account performs exceptionally all day.Only negative is that it doesnt offer the Download Plus usage WA does.
Just switched to Axxess and getting 1 MB/s

Your download speed will gradually improve until about 19h00, when you should get 1 MB/s

Something is wrong with international on my side.

Anyone else?

Hi Ajules,

The issues you experienced was down to the increase in network load as per our status page. Are you still having issues?

Things should be back to normal within this week.
