WebAfrica Capped ADSL

My 10mb line has also been poked the last few days running at 10-20% normal speed
Between Web Africa and Eskom I will never get to play GTA V.

@Web Africa i
- Is this is common problem on your network or is it only affecting certain users?
- Any details on what the problem is? (Your website says everything is running fine)
- Do you have timelines on a resolution.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat - on a 10mbps line; torrents have been dead dead slow in the evenings for the last few nights. Can't seem to get about ~200K. Streaming in youtube at 720p or greater is impossible. Speedtests equally kuk.

In cape town, by the way.

Hi Convex,

Thats very strange as 12-6am is always the time where torrents should fly. You might need to look at optimising your torrent client as there no issues with our network at the moment. Check link to get more info on optimising your torrents here.

My settings have never changed, its my WA acc that is never consistent. Ive just tried AH and Axxess free gig. 0 to 320kb/s in under 10secs. Now I have my WA acc going, and is taking forever to climb. 10 minutes have passed and it dancing around 100kb/s.

This all started beginning of last week for me.

Hi sloe-joe,

No issues affecting our network and there are customers who are not having issues. Please PM me your account details and include speed test and trace route results so I can take a look.

Hi bumbledore,

I have replied to your PM and need those tests as well so I can assist.

I have the same symptoms... 10mbps line syncing at 9000kbps, it jumps between 40-100kbps throughput. I'm on the home capped account. I've never had these issues before, there must be a problem somewhere at WA.

Am on 4Mg home capped, Cape Town, Obs..from 6pm till 11pm last night virtually no connection, most links timed out..could not even run the MB speed test. Contacted WA and support person says its exchange congestion and that they dont shape capped accounts...however i experienced this last month and support guy calimed it was due to OS updates causing capacity issues.

I keep reading of people having problems. With one foot out the door, I find that I just never see any of these severe issues myself and keep not cancelling. It works perfectly for me, so I'll be sticking around until it doesn't. (Business Capped)

Hi. I responded to the ticket, and provided all the information that was requested, and more. I was hoping for a response from JP last night, but didn't get one.

Sent some more feedback throughout the evening. I was hoping for a response from JP this morning, but didn't get one.

Downgraded my account to the R40/month option. Aiming to give notice of cancellation on the 1 May. No longer hoping for a response from JP this afternoon, but will now probably get one :wtf::wtf::wtf:

I did the same.

Would recommend all having issues do the same - you have until the 20th April to downgrade for next month. Rather spend that money on an ISP that responds to support tickets...

I would suggest that you give notice before the 1st of May as if you cancel in May then June will be your notice month.

Why not just do it today?

Thing is, if I cancel my subscription, then I'm going to need to pay them another R599 for May, for the service to terminate 31 May.

If I downgrade this month, I'll be locked into 2 payments of R39 for May and then for June (with the calendar month's notice clause) - but will write off that R78 as bad debt...

They also won't let you downgrade & give cancellation notice at the same time... Very effective technique to squeeze every last cent from the consumer before they leave...

I'm on Home Capped with a 20Mb VDSL line

  • If I start an NNTP download before 17h00 I get pathetic speeds i.e. down to 30Kb, even stopped.
  • If, after 17h30 / 18h00, I want to improve my speed I normally have to re-boot my modem i.e. establish a new connection. The connection does not "auto-upgrade".
  • The speed (after re-start) can be anything from 100Kb to 2.3Mb: it appears to be purely random.
  • A second restart will have the same purely random results.

After waiting about a minute for the speed test page to load it showed 8.67mb. My download however are currently going at 40% of normal. And at a fraction of that around 5/6pm. Browsing is also very slow.

With the speed test I fail to see how it cannot be shaping. I also find it weird how support always tells me there is no problem on their side but my slowdowns correlate with the times that this thread gets busy. After a lot of back and forth they always admit to it being shaping and then they refuse to tell me if the shaping will be removed or if this is how my line will perform going forward. Guess it will be easier to wait a week and see what happens before attempting to contact support as that has never achieved anything other then keeping me occupied until the problem resolves itself.

I did the same.

I would suggest that you inform who ever at Web Africa too, if you want to downgrade your service.

I had an issue: I downgraded via the customer portal on 22 Jan, and when I queried it with the March invoice when billed again for R149, they never downgraded me, then they said no only from 1 April, bla-bla-bla... So I mailed them a screen shot of the customer portal as proof, showing the change was suppose to take place 1 March. I had to query it again end of March as the credit note was not issued for the April invoice.

Hi,

This is really concerning, please PM me your account details and include speed test and trace route results so I can take a look.

Hi,

So sorry for the frustration caused. Our Capped accounts are prioritised and last month our network was affected by updates that we performed on our network. Nonetheless, please PM me your account details so I can investigate.
