Hey Peeps

Anybody having latency issues on wow after 10pm at night?

My latency stays around 200-250ms on webafrica the hole day up till 10pm and then i a start getting alot of lag spikes and latency shoots up to around 600-700ms. I use my webafrica account for raiding as up till now it has been the most stable.

I have no Issues on my Telkom or afrihost accounts i just avarage about 350-400ms using those accounts.

people probably start dling then or something.

just pm webafrica rep on mybb, he will sort you out :)

I've been having issues with WebAfrica aswell, pings going form stellar 220-1600, up and down. Was told it wasn't their fault, but my exchange was congested. I'm in Westbeach Cape town, curious if other people here have similar issues.

I personally play WoW on a WA account and my latency generally is 200-250ms, during office hours, after hours, after 10pm as well.

It definitely smell like a problem from your exchange to the WA network.

problem from your exchange
I'd agree. Could you kindly send in a support ticket Fur and we'll investigate asap.

Would you mind sending in a support ticket with the details too please so our Engineers may investigate. Im also surprised to hear that you feel we haven't improved - we track our network and customer service performance very closely and the data reflects further, positive improvements, almost across the board over the past few months.

I presume your monitoring period didn't include the recent 36 hour outage on mail05 that saw the restore fail for domains S to Z and what mail was restored was missing everything from 24th Dec 2010.

The WA notification forum [US] mail05.glodns.net outage still hasn't fully explained what happened

Hi Stocksie

Apologies for the disruption. I will follow up on this and see why no proper explanation was provided.

Hi Stocksie,

Regarding the outage on mail05.glodns.net , we did provide customers with information that the outage had been caused by a faulty secondary disk on mail05.glodns.net on the forum link below :

http://forums.webafrica.co.za/showthread.php?4802-US-mail05.glodns.net-outage

After the restore process , we resent all mails that were spooled on our firewalls to bring everything up to date. I have sent you a PM requesting your Web Africa client details so that I can assist you further.

Please provide me with these details at your earliest convenience so that I can assist you further.

My pings are not bad, in fact very good, but I keep on getting 'stalls' not sure what to call it, but connection just stops for about 30 secs.. then fine again. But frustrating 'cos it throws me out my gaming server :( doesn't happen on IS account, so it can't be my router
A bit better than last night I have to admit.

I'm curious as to how you get sub-10ms pings when you're not in Cape Town. I think the "cogentco.com" link is what is slow, I get 600ms pings from my client's server hosted on the Web Africa network

and also, just another note:

Web Africa is known for their ability to play dumb (I'm not sure if they're just playing). So if a person who gets fine speeds during the day (which is peak times) suddenly doesn't get fine speeds around the exact time their Download Plus service starts, I'm more inclined to believe it's not an exchange problem, but a configuration problem on WA's end.

It took me several weeks to convince support that there was shaping issues on World of Warcraft. I even had to get a different ISP connection just for comparison. So I'm not surprised at all that the user's exchange is getting blamed for this.

lol.

Check the trace again, hop 3 will give you a slight hint why the latencies are sub 10ms, its a 4mbit line. I found Cogenco to be pretty decent most of the time, however I guess I like them more because I know the history of how they became a Tier1 world wide.

Not sure about the rest of your post...but I guess there is always a exception to the rule and you just have it bad for some reason.

I decided yesterday to move over from my unshaped webafrica account to the Home 10gig package with the Titanium prioritised bandwidth to see if it would make a difference and what a difference it made. Before i was playing on the 1gig unshaped using lowerping i was getting around 250-300ms but found it impossible to raid in 25mans i would just lag out or just dc, without lowerping i would get around 400ms but would still lag out or dc.

Last Night was the smoothest 25man raid i have done in long time no lags no dc and was getting around 250ms the hole night without using lowerpinh

I am pleased to hear you are happy - to me I just think it is wrong the WA has found another way to make customers pay more for what should be a standard product. Has this cost you R 370 for your "upgrade"?

I am not planning to fork out more for what used to be my good service levels. Now I have some great days and then some bad (at the moment!!)

Enjoy

Thing is i have tried all the cheaper guys like afrihost, axxes and tbh they are just down right terrible, telkom is ok but not great. I would rather pay more and get a decent connection then sit with a cheap frustrating connection. Like they say what you pay is what you get and most times the cheaper root always turns out to be the wrong decision. So yea iam gonna pay about R300 more but at least it works unlike the other isp's out there.

I dont doubt i will have problems with webafrica but atm they seem the most Promising

Thanks for all the kind words and feedback guys, really appreciated. Taking note of everything.

Our Pro (Titanium) bandwidth costs less than Unshaped Fulton. Unshaped was around R89 per GB. Titanium bandwidth ranges from R37 on Complete to R65 on Data. After hours its R15 per GB with the Download Plus add-on.

Any long term plans regarding the local latency for the Gauteng ppl? This whole routing via CPT thing kinda messes it up. PTA -> SAIX servers w/ 90ms is quite a disadvantage if there are players w/ 30ms ping on the server. I'm guessing that would involve connecting to JINX? I'd guess a solid chunk of WA customers are in Gauteng anyway.

Sure I can use the 1gig AH free a/c...but switching constantly is meh and a gig gets burned pretty fast.
