So.... I was thinking of moving to Webafrica, so i checked with them about a trial account.
I was told I can apply for it online, but when i tried i received a message telling me i already used this service.

So, i mailed [email protected] with all my details, and they tell me I have already used this service before.
Apparently i used the free trial from 14/03/2011 to the 23/04/2012. :wtf:

First that made me :D then it made me

Firstly, how the hell do you use a "trial" for over a year ?
Secondly, I've recently relocated and only have this new adsl line for 2 months now (i told them they can confirm this with telkom).
Lastly, i want to know then if somebody used my ID number to sign up for anything with them !

But alas..... sales is clueless.

Thanks, but no thanks webafrica. Your more clueless than telkom imo.

Wow, so you had absolutely no dealings with the company before hand yet they already have you signed up.

Sounds like either they copying databases from someone else or your info has been compromised.

Did you keep the old owner's landline number when you moved in or did you get a new number? Could be that the previous owner of wherever you live used his telephone to sign up for a trial.

Then again, their trials don't keep going for a year at a time, iirc.

Nah, we got a new line/number. the previous owner did not even have a land line.

This is a strange one. If you haven't used the trial service anytime before with us it should allow you to use the trial. I have all your details from the support ticket you sent to sales and will have this investigated by our developers to see if a trial account has been signed up on your details.

I will provide feedback as soon as I get more information on this.

@gnomez - I have PM'd you can you please have a look. Thanks

@gnomez

I have done some digging and according to our system a trial account was signed up on 14 March 2011 on telephone number 031462**** which expired on the 30 March 2011 with same details you sent us and with the very same email address you sent the support ticket from.

So our system is definitely correct about the fact that you have signed up for a trial account before. We therefore are not able to provide you with another trial account.

Please let me know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Whilst I think the OP's title is totally uncalled for, a whole 3 gig trial account from WA well over a year later, and WA can't do this. A lot can change in a year, so have to say think this is a bit short sighted of WA.

Yeah. I agree with Fulton. What if the point of asking for a trial is to gauge whether the network is better than it was a year back?

Cheapskates! Buy a 1GB account and test them. What is this, Government? Ama-gravytrain-passenger! lielielielielielielie!!!

What, you mean that vastly overpriced 1gb prepaid that WA offers? The one that is probably the most expensive 1gb you're going to pay for in SA?

Rather try another ISP - their bandwidth is very expensive and it’s shaped to the max. Any other ISP will be better especially if you use it during the day. Try Afrihost they're the new WA and it's cheaper and unshaped. I currently have both and I notice it the most when playing D3 to EU and Youtube during the day. Afrihost is just a much more stable network - you get your bandwidth on demand WA is up and down ping shoots up to 900ms DCs etc. that’s just my experience. Good Luck.

R29 for 2GB is expensive? lol

I'm guessing you're talking about uncapped ADSL being shaped as I have a "shaped" ADSL account (30GB cap) and I get sub 200ms latency in World of Warcraft and full Peer to Peer download speeds (10mbps).

So...their shaping isn't harsh at all on capped accounts.

I don't know about the uncapped as I don't have one.
