Check what "someone I know" got yesterday;

If you could please refrain from using BitTorrent again. Reason being that (IS) has your ip address and they will block you as well as black list you.

They even phoned the person in question this morning and asked them to stop downloading via p2p, hows that peepz!

Uhm, since when is BitTorrent illegal software. BitTorrent itself is not illegal, maybe only what it was being used for ;)
 
How do they know that the person who downloaded this doesn't already own that DVD and might be downloading this as a backup copy under the Fair-use clause?

IS also has your adsl port number....which you can't change. The foreign companies can't do anything, but if IS cooperates and blocks you at their request...then the stuff has hit the fan.

And this wouldn't apply to companies with a fixed IP address.

I'd imagine IS is probably being hit by MGM or one of the other big places with notices and they're passing them down the line. Hope they don't take things further with your "friend".

oh... cos the DVD has not been released yet.

Yeah... I would say time to move to a new ISP.
 
Firstly how much was he downloading and is it a uncapped acc?

I'm with webafrica ( 10 gig ) and also download using only P2P. And never had that crap.
 
Not uncapped account, I'm not sure what account it is, but I'm guessing its probably one of their 3GB accounts or something.
