Yup but with usenet, people will have a difficult time proving anything, seeing that one effectively downloads text files. And besides that, it's within the (SA) law because data is only transferred one way (down).

With torrents on the other hand, there is the upload component which can be seen distribution. That's illegal.

oh noes!they can moan to me as much as they want,il just find another ISP for when my tlkm accounts are capped

True enough. Usenet is hard to track & prove. I don't think it's worth their time quite honestly. Most likely the companies in SA just do the legwork when they're under pressure and then let it slide again.

WRT torrents, I wonder what would happen if the people accused proved that they had plugins which stopped seeding? :D

I wonder if IS know what their Usenet server gets used for...

Im sure they know, but they wont close it down otherwise who will buy the 30gb local account then? I would say most sales of their local accounts goes towards downloading from the news server.

Agreed Kloon.
But I still think, meeting up with okes who are in your area are better ;)

ADSL accounts sales are not IS's core business. They will still profit without it. They've only introduced local-only accounts recently due to request, they were managing fine before them.

Sure but they still make a *****load of money off it, and as with any company in SA thats what matters. If they didnt make any money why didnt they have uncapped accounts, or charge us one price for a uncapped account.

I know of guys in America that gets the same message. Like they said.. Bittorrent is easy to track ... ISP just pass the message to end user
