Hi everyone

After nearly 3 years with Webafrica this year have been sheer torture and I made the call to move elsewhere. I need some serious suggestions where I can move my 80 plus domains too.

I am looking for a hosting company that can accommodate both Windows and PHP hosting.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm currently hosting in the UK on a RackSpace server, I've personally set it up from the ground up. It doesn't have helm though but can run both Windows and PHP on the same machine (IIS/Apache running independantly and it has mysql/sql 2005 on it) as well as mail.

It's not my server, but I'm administering it for a company. If i can justify an expense (for helm, for example) and if you'd like to host your 80 domains there, let me know.

I'll help with moving it over and everything if you'd like.

What was so torturous about WebAfrica? Please enlighten us. I thought that they provided they best customer service and support, and had the best systems and reliability?

Afrihost is another big player you could consider, and I believe myBB is using Hetzner.

Seems they have been plagued with hardware failures, on top of that, non-communication to hosting clients and issues took forever to resolve (forever meaning your site can be offline for a day or two). Their auto-close ticket "feature" also made it annoying when you get feedback from the agent saying they'll get back to you with your issue "the engineer is looking into it" and then it gets closed by the system for some reason...

etc etc etc

Mmmm, we should put a hosting FAQ thread together and get it stickied. I get the feeling there are a lot of people visiting this section looking to initiate or switch hosting companies.

Now if only i wasn't so lazy tonight...

lol... yea, that's why I'm thinking of starting my own hosting company and only taking on like 5 clients. Make it personalized.

Chatmaster, are you looking for local hosting, or something overseas? And do you have any preferences over which control panels (both for Windows, and Linux) you want to use?

Hi Chatmaster

We are a new hosting company that offers personal service and value-for-money packages. Our packages start from R19.99 per month with 5Gb Disk Space, 10Gb Bandwidth Allocation and 100 E-mail Accounts. We have Windows or Linux packages, as well as PHP4 and PHP5 support. You can check out our website at www.connecthosting.net, or contact me directly at [email protected] if you need more information.

Hope you find what you are looking for! :-)

Wow I dig your unlimited space option. Where can I buy one of those PEP HDDs? (Perpetually Expanding Platter Hard Disk Drives)

Hi guys

Truly thankful for your responses and recommendations. Our main issue with Web Africa is with their billing system and the fact that their emails seems to take forever to arrive. The CEO got involved and we now have a personal account manager working through the issues with us. We have been assured that the billing system will be rectified and we are still working on the emails, but I am confident that we will work it out.

Thanks for the responses and I will give feedback as soon as all our issues has been resolved or not.

nah hes not with HG and theres no such thing as unlimited, unless you have PEP HDDs!
Most of these guys that claim unlimited have an AUP the prevents 'abuse' They'll quickly find ways of getting more money out of you when your site starts to use lots of resources. These unlimited packages are also tend to be on overloaded servers and the moment you start to get a significant number of visitors you'll start to feel the slow down...
