Webserver hosted on ADSL not possible... Or is it?

It can lead to serious lawsuits if Telkom were to do this. Most DNS service providers offer other services which will be impacted by a simple blocking by Telkom.

no-ip.com still works though.

When I said "for a few days", I mean that they unblocked it afterwards. As far as I know, no official statement was ever made about it.

Call me a fool, but hell no, i cannot for the life of me get my IIs to work through my Router. I've read the previous posts and tried it, but to no avail.

Yes, I've registered a domain at no-ip.com and enabled the PAT to my router pointinting to IIS's IP, but still cannot browse from the outside. Is there someone that could just help me out here.

You don't mention if you are using a dynamic DNS updating client or not?
 
Yes, i've downloaded the DUC client update utility, and it updates correctly.

I can ping and tracert, but cannot browse my server page!

Are you trying this while on the LAN or from outside?

It won't work if you try http://[your_domain] while on the LAN, but should work if you try from an outside location.

There's no response from the site. If it was a problem with IIS ACL's I'd expect at least some kind of error message.

Just guessing, but I think you may still have a problem with your PAT setup or you have a firewall that is dropping incoming http requests.
 
Well maybe this could be the problem, but i'm not sure:

My IIs and the NO-IP ip is the same, i have tried to use another ip on the IIS as on no-ip but still the same!

That can't be right. If you are using a router you'll likely be using private IP's on the LAN. The No-IP IP should be the IP at the WAN side of your router. The PAT setup should tell the router where to send incoming http requests. Something like 192.xxx.xxx.xxx.

How are your IP's setup, DHCP from the router or from NT, or manually? What range of addresses are you using?
 
ok here it is:

My IIS Server 169.254.19.21
Other pc's on LAN in the above range
PotsRouter : 169.254.19.5 and DHCP is off

then the NO-IP ip is forced at 169.254.19.21, if not forced it defaults to 198.54.202.2 for kmmpu.sytes.net
 
DSL only gives you one IP address (at least the Telkom flavour does). You can't just manufacture more IP's in the same range for use on your LAN.

The IP of your IIS server cannot be the same as your real IP address on the internet if you are using the modem as a router.

I'd suggest hitting google.com and looking up Network Address Translation for some background.

Um, you should probably also be using RFC 1918 addresses rather than Local Link addresses.

I use Dyndns service and it works like a charm, I have about 20 sites running on it so i can do remote access. I have set it up with HTTP, SMTP, VNC, Terminal server (Remote desktop access), PCanywhere.

It works with all of them!!
 
I would really appreciate it if someone could post the steps for setting up a server behind one of those Telkom POTS routers with VNC or Remote Desktop on it.

I've been through the whole forum, and I must be missing something somewhere, as I've set up a Win2K server with terminal services and VNC on it, registered with no-ip.com and have the dynamic DNS up. The server sits behind the router on a network, without the PPPOE client.

The real problem lies with VNC & RDP - I've set up PAT on the router to forward all TCP & UDP traffic on the VNC & RDP ports to the internal server, but to no avail. When I connect with VNC, it displays a page not found error, and RD says the connection could not be established.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you're trying to connect to your VNC server with your browser (page not found). What happens when you try to connect with the VNC client ?

Problem with POTS router is I could never find out how to do port forwarding on it, and with out this it is quite difficult if not impossible to get certain services to run. Like VNC you need to open ports 5800 to 5900.

If some can figure out how to port forward this on Telkoms POTS router, let me know!
