Webserver hosted on ADSL not possible... Or is it?

How can one set this up with .co.za domains and private .co.za nameservers or do you have to use dyndns.org for nameserving?

The problem is that .CO.ZA requires Reverse DNS on the nameserver.

PS: Would this be possible with any of Sentech's services?
 
You have whatever company you prefer host your DNS with whatever domain(s) you want and ask them to point your domains to [yourhost].dyndns.org.
 
I've setup hostname.dyndns.org and it pings well from local or remote.
The problem is that I cannot access any webpages on the server, it simply gives and error "Page cannot be displayed"

Any advice?

PS: how do I get rid of the following in ping reply?

Allow TCP port 80 incoming through your router and/or firewall.

Don't know what you mean about the ping.

What the hell am i missing here. I've setup at no-ip and when i enter my site name it pops up with router login. I've also setup the PAT to point to my webserver but to no avail.

PLEASE HELP???????????????[:(!]

Maybe you should write up a summary of your settings to date. You won't be able to connect to your site from the LAN by going to [yoursite].noip.com. That will only work from outside the LAN.
 
I'm using a few .co.za domains with zoneedit.com and with dyndns.. works like a charm. And no, you don't need reverse DNS setup on the name servers to use co.za. And lastly, what precisely do you mean with "can you use your own DNS servers". You can't (or shouldn't) host DNS on a dynamic IP, so, if you have a static IP, then, you don't even have to use zoneedit or dyndns in the first place.

If it is for business use, I would strongly recommend that you rather use a secure software application like www.ipdetective.ca , since it does not send all your private ip addresses through a dns service server. All your information stays secure on your server and it also automatically updates. Good luck. PS: It is also cheaper since there is no monthly fee to pay and it only costs $20 CDN to buy. Pardon my ignorance, but why is that? I can ping my machine by using [mysite].nopip.com. Then why shouldn't I be able to do anything else?

I have not seen him around for awhile but speak to antowan. He has a webserver at home and is hosting his own site. Antowan some of your experience is needed.

It really is not that difficult, I'm rehashing a thread from the start of this year, just looking at the pg 2, and the default IP, it seems to be a problem, that 169.x.x.x range is usually defaulted when windows can't find a dhcp server, this will not talk very well to the POTS routers default 192.168.10.200, I would recommend
step 1 : Ensure a valid ip is being issued, and that the pots router is on the same range as the network interface it is plugged into.
step 2 : Open PAT in the router, and forward source port 80 to the IP of the machine hosting webserve, port 80

I've got a Telkom ADSL router pots and managed to set up a web server:
First of all you need to set up your HTTP deamon in basic setup to a diffrent port besides 80 lets say 20000 like I did.
Your Router config will now be available on 'http://(router ip):20000'
Next you need to setup your PAT parameter using interface ATM1 and NOT LAN. If you use LAN it will not work. And set your port and server port to 80, and fill in the server IP. Make three identical entries but with differnet protocols. Save and restart the router. And Whalla that's it.
Note: To test the web server use a different connection to the internet. I used a dialup connection to test mine. Go to a friends house or internet cafe. You will not be able to test the server from within the LAN the server is situated.

When I try and host IIS on an XPP box I get a "the connection was refused when attempting to contact..."

Any ideas. I've read what others have said in this thread and likewise I've setup a virtual server to route port 80 through to my lan ip etc. and disabled firewalls but so far no luck. i must still be missing something.

IIS works fine using localhost etc.

Thanks for any ideas...
