Hi all,

I've decided with all the public holidays and stuff coming up that I'd have some spare time on hand. As such I've resolved to learning a new skill. I want to make my own website.

I don't want to make money off it and I'm not expecting 100 hits a day, but just a social club type static page site. Remember, the main aim being to learn how to publish the site, thus no payment engine and no user interactivity ie forums, logins etc (yet - I might attemp more advanced later on).

I've gone with Texo for registering the domain and hosting the site. And I was very impressed. The creating of the actual site thus far has been done using Word and then saving it as HTML.

The part that I'm struggling with now is the graphics for the Header. Obviously I'd like it customised without just copying and mutilating someone else's stuff. I'm not very creative, so no creating it in Paint and viola! for me.

Any recommendations? Can I take photo's of stuff and use that? Do I need to get a creative minded person to design something on a special app? How much would that cost? What format should I store the files in? (.jpg / .png or something else?)

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Look for open source photos online - or even ready made headers. No need to pay anyone - you can definitely do it yourself - it just takes time to learn.

Or, you can download free graphics software, like The Gimp, and make your own headers. Or you can pm me for a quote, if you're too lazy to do that :)

Thanks, I'll try that.

Thank you, The Gimp sounds interesting - I'll check it out.

Some posted these links recently, but here they are again:

Enjoy!

Thank you. I'm downloading PageBreeze at the moment.

What's the name of your site?

All in good time ;)

Hi,

Another question regarding copyright.

If I wanted to endorse a product, what are the rules/laws regarding the website of the product? Could I copy that products header and incorporate it in my site with a disclaimer that it is still their trademark with a link to their site?
