Hi Guy,

Looking for a program, which is free, which I can use to log websites users access, without them knowing about it... :D

Anyone know of such a thing? I have found some, but they only give you a trial version and requires user interaction.

Well if she does not know how to clean history and temporary internet files then you can just look there?

So you wanting something that, when the oke comes intothe office, will check his accessed websites over the past week or so (the time when he wasn't in the office)?

Isn't this in breach of some privacy statement somewhere? :D

LoL, no. We have a guy at work which had his laptop formatted and cleaned of viruses 4 times in the last 3 months...

on the next format install ubuntu and your problem is solved.

or if you are really EVIL just give him a macbook

Don't you guys enforce anti-virus on work issues laptops/pc's.

+1 Definitely a breach of privacy, especially if he is on his own time. Even if he is working from home, who says what hours are "work" time and which are "personal" time.

Depends on his terms of employment. If your IT policy states that the policy applies to company equipment, and not company time, then there is no breach of privacy - especially if the user is made aware that company equipment is monitored....

Interesting. Okay, the idea has been dropped because of this privacy thing. Talked to HR and they said we have a better change of forcing him to use his personal laptop for work(which obviously we have a problem with) than to monitor his internet activity while he is working from home.

I see where you are coming from. From the tone of the post it sounded to me like he wanted to install this "web monitoring" software on the sneeky, to trap this guy. If this is the case => 100% wrong!

To me what also would make a difference to how this is approached is who is paying for the bandwidth when he is at home? I (and probably most people) use my work laptop at home but with my bandwidth, no ways I'm letting my company monitor my web usage. What if I'm searching for another job via the web? And how is this any different to using other company resources, like the phone on my desk.

IT policy regarding web usage at work, application installation etc etc I agree with 100%. Buy this is a serious gray area. Rather put IT policy in place that makes sense e.g. force anti virus!

especially if the user is made aware that company equipment is monitored....
That being said, if you've signed your privacy away, well good for you!

The problem with IT policy regarding personal use is that while 99% of people respect the equipment and use it as it should be used; there is always the 1% who does not. The policy is there to take care of that 1%.

We had one guy who used his notebook to download torrents at home. When I asked him why he says: "What if I download a virus; who will fix my PC then? This one is your problem" (referring to his work notebook). We nailed his dumb ass to the wall :)

Agreed, we had a guy downloading from limewire with his work laptop. He obviously got viruses on it and we formatted it without trying to rescue his documents. We told him why and he had to life with it. :D

As to the other questions, yes, he is using is own BW and internet link, but he asked if he can work from home. He connects to the company remotely via VPN, so technically, he is still connected to our network...
