Website started to put pressure on Eskom

Also, what about not being able to draw cash from ATMs when there is no power in several adjacent areas...

Great thanks.
Now I am concerned, actually.
Do they have UPSs?
What happens if the cash is only half dispensed?

ATM's do not have UPS systems, the simply shut down.

We have also had a group of people register and host www.eishkom.com on our servers, very interesting to watch, I think any and all pressure on Eskom is a good idea, maybe when the public and news (International) start taking notice, Eskom may choose not to export all our power and give it South Africans who through their tax money have paid for it many times over !

Don't know if they have UPSes - specifically ATMs not attached to a bank branch, but how long can a UPS really last...

However those ATMs at bank branches would rely on the generators that banks are rolling out at each of their branches.

As far as cash being dispensed is concerned, NCR ATMs [in particular used by ABSA], collect the notes from the cash cannisters into a bunch and only then conveyor belt it up to the slot where the money comes out, the ATM application knows whether or not that slot was opened, so if the slot was never opened, then the ATM application would reverse the transaction when power is restored and the bunched cash would be retracted into the ATM's cash retract bin.

If the ATM's go off when they do power on again I wonder if you press the right key presses if you can get it in debug mode :D

Not with ABSA's ATMs you cannot - unless someone changed something, don't know about the ATMs of other banks.

all atms fail to safe, so no freebies.

aarggh...this happened to me - so YES, the ATM just switch off...!

I was drawing money, whilst in the middle of the transaction, the power went down - I had to cancel the current card which the ATM took, get the bank to cancel the transaction - (after a long fight to convince them that I did not actually recieve the money).

I then had to go back to the bank to get the new card - thanks Eishkom..!

So much for "saving" money on ATMs vs Cashier. Another step backward for me now.

Nearly happened with my sis-in-law... she was withdrawing the money, and just as the money started to come out, the power went.

She was glad she already had her card, and was able to remove the money :D

Joked with her and said that I hope the transaction didn't went through :D

This is why ABSA ATMs only issue the card after the cash has been removed from the cash presenter slot.

Where do I go to read the people's stories on the Solidarity page?

Don't want to add my tale yet...

You dont as far as I could see. It seems to have nothing to do with sharing, but rather about a few solidarity employees chuckling at your story on their latops while they wait for Eskom to switch their power back on...
