Afterwards i find out that the WordPress installation has been removed and my whole website and basically time and effort and all backups all gone!!

Please recommend a better and greater up-time host that is reasonably priced, thanks so much!

the wordpress install page should not mean that your website is missing, should just be a case of the database needing to be restored.. surely they have backups..?

You hope they have back ups

Afrihost wiped out 3 sites of mine a year ago.

Had to start muscletalk from a 2 year old back up.

Now with Hetzner and domains.co.za I can sleep at night

I also joined webspacebar a few days ago as a host. I understand that they have trouble at the moment, all my emails and websites are still accessible. There were a few times...lets say 30 minutes that some stuff were down. The support I received was great and fast. I will stick with them, disaster can strike any host service anytime.

100% Every hosting company goes through their up's and downs, it's how they handle it that makes the difference between a good host and bad host.

This forum is testament to that.

They were most likely restoring services whilst wordpress was unable to connect to the db.

Are you guys affiliated with them?

Good evening all.

There is a hardware problem at the data center and we are attending to this.

We do apologize for the downtime experienced, and yes, we do have backups :)

We honestly do understand and appreciate the fact that the downtime is unacceptable and we are doing our utmost to resolve this with all haste.

There is a delay in our reply to support tickets at this time as everyone are logging support tickets but we are working on this issue and we will resolve this.

If you pay R5 or R5000, the fact remains that the onus is on us to ensure uptime and this hardware issue really has been unacceptable. On one of the shared hosting servers there has been a major outage for two days. First firmware was reloaded and service seemed stable but the connection to the storage is sporadic. We built a brand new server with 4 x 800gb SSD drives (just to show you we are serious about how responsive the hosting server should be) and we are busy moving everyone to that server.

Our aim is to have service restored for everyone tomorrow morning.

We have and always will work tirelessly to do out best, and sometimes things happen that are out of our control,
but we believe its not what happens but how you deal with it that counts.

Your website, regardless of how big or small, is important to us, if you have a business or a blog, it important to us.

We will post an update here as soon as this has been resolved, and we thank you for your patience during this time.

Can I please ask everyone here who are affected, to drop me a PM, we would like to give you each two months free hosting as a small gesture for the downtime experienced.

As always we are at your service.

Great job replying in a timely manner.

@OP I would recommend this https://en-za.wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/ and do backups manually whenever you feel like it, or spend a few $ and get the Google Drive (or whatever Cloud) plugin that automatically backs up and stores your site's data on your Google Drive. It's unlimited installs/websites so pretty cool. Just note that some shared hosts do not have the capacity to run that, but I'd rather not name them here.

we aren't in any way affiliated with them, my comment was to emphasize that every company has its ups and downs and in circumstances where the issue is out of their control, it's how they handle the situation that makes them a great or bad company. The response by the rep is an example of customer loyalty and good ethics

Also experiencing bad service from them.

Weird stuff actually, current error message: ERROR MESSAGE:

Sorry for the inconvenience!
The filesystem mounted at / on this server is running out of disk space. cPanel operations have been temporarily suspended to prevent something bad from happening. Please ask your system admin to remove any files not in use on that partition.

* They change their mail servers without letting me know.

* They take away certain stuff from cpanel without informing you.

* They don't answer all the questions you ask them on a ticket, you have to repeat the questions and their answers do not include proper descriptions of how stuff works.

Thinking of moving away from them.

Good morning.

Please provide me with a ticket reference in PM so I can investigate and advise.

In regards to the error you noted, it was resolved within 15 minutes from it alarming.

In regards to the below, without knowing any background information (which I trust you will PM to me)
* They change their mail servers without letting me know.
We have never changed any mail servers, your mail server address is and always has been mail.yourdomainname

* They take away certain stuff from cpanel without informing you.
I take it you are referring to the x3 theme being decommisioned on Cpanel, which is something they announced as the theme is end of life, I am not aware of any other feature no longer showing on Cpanel, we have been using the same Cpanel plugins for several years now. Nothing has changed.

* They don't answer all the questions you ask them on a ticket, you have to repeat the questions and their answers do not include proper descriptions of how stuff works.
Please do PM me the tickets in this regard and we will gladly advise.

Id also like to note that over the past year we have done the following without increasing costs to anyone:
1) We have converted all servers to use litespeed for faster website loading times, we have not forwarded the cost of that to anyone
2) We have implemented the use of mailchannels as a smarthost outbound mail solution to ensure that our IP ranges will never be blocked for spam sending as we block spam before it reaches the destination
3) We have bought online additional storage to store backups for longer periods of time
4) Earlier the year we had a major SAN outage causing mysql to crash, people lost no more than 2 days of downtime during a major outage due to the fact that we brought online the increased storage capacity to keep backups for longer periods seeing we had to restore to a date the mysql databases werent corrupting

And throughout this all no one has seen a single price increase on any of our packages regardless of the extra measures we implement.

All our support tickets are answered on the same day, and usually in less than an hour.

While we live in a real world with real problems that occur we have always and will continue to ensure that service remains online to the best of our ability and to ensure that any and all queries are responded to in full with customer excellence in mind.

We will continue to ever improve our service regardless of what may occur.

Please may I ask that you pm us if you want to escalate a support ticket,
we also answer all Facebook and Twitter escalations and will ensure that any and all support requests are dealt with professionally and to the best of our ability.

@padjakkels, If I may offer you a free month's hosting to make up for any inconvenience you may have experienced as I trust you will find that we really go the extra mile to put the customer first.

Not enough disk space for a cpanel instance...

Hi Thor.
Yes, root ran out of space as the backup transport stopped,
due to a cpanel update changing the number of ftp sessions created,
causing it to open more sessions to the ftp store than permitted on the ftp server side,
causing the ftp store to deny connection and the backup stored locally so the local store space ran out on root.
This has since been resolved on both sides and we then had to recycle the services on this server.

As you can see we communicate when these things happen.

I doubt the thread title is accurate explaining that we are the worst host ever, no human would have been sitting there looking at the ftp log the very moment the session connection exceeded and the backups stopped transferring. We did get alarms for this and we did resolve this but unfortunately this did result in a 15 minute outage for which we gladly offer padjakkels a free month hosting to apologize for any inconvenience that may have caused.
