Webstorm - The deal that never was

Will be watching this space like a hawk (or was that a chicken, I'm hungry). My old man might have a VC modem lying around.

To answer a post a few posts back, that if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't true: that's a very pessimistic view when you consider this was exactly the deal Cell C offered which works for many people now and shook up the market in the first place. This could finally be the crack in the dam which shakes up the whole overpriced mobile broadband market (to mix metaphors).

And as with the Cell C offer: at that amazing (for SA) price, all you've got to lose if it does go t*ts-up, is less than a thousand bucks. Unless you're living in a cardboard box that's not life and death.

Lose some here, lose some there etc. etc. one will end up living in a cardboard box. :D

Your math is great. however your comment is not quite as clear.
If the offer discussed in the last few posts here is considered:
then
CellC: R1999 once off, which = R166.58 for 5GIGS = R33.32 for 1GIG = R0.0325 for 1meg. and
Vodacom ( via the ISP offering it ) is: R1995 once off, which = R166.25 for 5GIGS = R33.25 for 1GIG = R0.0325 for 1meg.

Now how does "it's glaringly evident that ANY data bundle from MTN or Voda is a rip-off compared to CellC! " work?
I am sure you will be delighted to see the Vodacom deal and I really hope you see your way clear to reconsider your stance.
It must however remain a bit of a pain to admit that the CellC top ups are cheaper that the R0.60/Mb on the Vodacom offer. But hey, not to many people actually use the top up features ? So, it's a positive step in the right direction then ? Oh yes, and the coverage !!!???

First off, some forum manners: if you going to quote me, it's common courtesy to link the quote.

I will gladly change my stance when you have proven that you are for real, able to sustain your offer and provide after-sales support. Gogga when tits-up, what stop you from suffering from the same ill-fate? or don't you worry 'coz you are protected from any financial setback by the lop-sided T&C's? Lastly, I hope you are successful as it will bode well for us all as consumers. Personally i need not worry until December 2011, as I am already locked an loaded with CellC. Either which way this ends up, I will be back here to "change my stance" or confirm my stance. :D

There is a straw man element to this. I'm willing to trust a 1yr prepaid payment (like handing out a loan) to a large established company like Cell-C. How do I trust Webstorm? What is their asset base and balance sheet?

And damn it all... that we-can-terminate-at-any-time-and-there-is-fsuk-all-you-can-do-about-it clause sticks in the throat when you are paying up-front for future services.

Yes, this is the type of attitude you see on Paid to click sites. :erm:

Amen to that!

Another problem is this is on a 3rd rate network.

I'd have attempted MTN

Why not add a 6 or even 3 month deal? That way people would be less hesitant to try it and it will allow to build on the trust factor. Webstorm may have been around a while, but me and a lot of people on mybroadband, never even heard of you before.

That way the risk is kept at minimum and if users are happy with service, they'd probably use it again.
Heck who here would not like a lower risk 3-6 month deal?

+10

I don't get it.

if you can offer 5GB per month x 12 months for R1995 on vodacom, why can't you offer that same 5GB for R166/month? heck, you can even charge double that, R320 per month?

Surely you KNOW people will keep buying from you if they get 5GB for around R200-R300? You don't NEED to lock people in for 12 months if they are going to get a good deal.

If you can answer me why that is not possible, then I might think about your service.

So I'll ask again - Why can't you make it better for your customers by using a month-to-month deal, while also making it better for yourself by making 4X the profit too?
(Remember, if it was R166 p/month your profit per person, per bundle, would be....say, R50, at most? Now it would be R50 + R150)

At the end of the day it's the same thing, but
1) customers will be happy as they not locked in.
2) you make 4X the profit.
3) MORE people willing to join your network as its a smaller risk = MORE profit.
4) and also MORE people joining because not everyone has R2000 to blow at one single time, R200-R300 is doable by almost anyone = even MORE profit.

Thanks.

I'm with Keeper on this - please give us a month to month package and you can charge us more, I would still buy it.

One thing that worries me, even if this offer is a legitimate one, that you have to change your APN...
Does this possibly mean that quality of service will not be the same as on Vodacom network?
I'm talking about contention ratio, maximum/average speed, latency (voip, gaming), etc...
I think we need to know more technical details, like how much available bandwidth webstorm has, and so on.
Brits? Any details on that?
