Wedding budget?

The biggest waste of money imaginable, ESPECIALLY whilst living in a recession.

Some marriages even show cracks before the wedding costs have been paid off in full.

Why why why would one waste money like this???

Take it you did not have a wedding that did not involve McDonalds as your catering company?

Well it all depends on what the people want...

I know people who have saved up 8 years to get married, that's dedication. Sometimes people just want to have a memorable occasion.

McDonalds would never feature large in any part of my life ;)

Obviously you should adjust.... but in 20 years time your kids want to see what your wedding looked like, what will you show them ?

"This is mommy and daddy at the court for our wedding" *taken with our iPhone.

"Mommy, whats an iPhone ?"

"Its an old fashion thing we used to have before we invented the holobrain"

One idea we got from friends - and it worked very well at our wedding - buy cheap disposable cameras 1 or 2 per table and ask guests to take photos and ensure ALL photos on the cameras has been used up.

We got some stunning fun photos from these which added a different perspective. Everybody was cool with the idea and made sure all films were full at the end of the evening

Getting married next year and weddings hitting at around 180k honeymoon every included...getting married in stellenbosch me and wife to be would have been saving for 15 months in total.

My advice is make a budget and try stick to it, hopefully you do it once and want awesome memories to accompany it!

That's actually quite a cool idea! Awesome ice breaker for the guests as well.

Amazing how image is everything. Whether you get married in court or have 500 guest extravaganza there is something deeper to this.

If I ever had to get married I would like it to be only the closest people in your life, so max 30-50 guests, and have the biggest jol ever. Screw the family and all the others that are only there for the booze & food.

We considered doing this, but in the age of digital it just isn't such a great idea anymore.
The disposables are cheapish, sure, but then you have to pay to get all the films developed, and if you're like me and you aren't bothered with printing photos, you'll want to get them scanned to digital format. Scanning to digital format results in low res pictures.

I guess if you have everything else and there's still money left over, go for it and it will be fun, but not 100% practical. I would rather recommend a photo booth with fun props. Those things are awesome and keep people busy, and they get to take their snaps home as memories while you get digital versions of all the photos. You can also have them stick a pic in the guest book next to the message they sign.

Eish dude - try flying that passed your missus to be when the time comes. Remember - us guys are only along for the ride. It's all about them.

:o Ja forgot about that, this is my point of view. As you said at the end of the day it's her day and you basically just tag along.

Got married a few months ago. Cost R65000 for 65 people. Parents sponsored a bit and I paid the rest.

My advice save on the wedding and spare no expense on the honeymoon.
this ^

a wedding is only for a day. The honeymoon is the start of your life as Mr & Mrs XYZ together

Busy saving as we speak. The rings are out the way, now we have to save for honeymoon and wedding. More than likely the wedding will cost 40k-50k for 48 people (lol most of family in Australia so don't have to cater for them). But add the rings and you sitting on atleast R60k
