I don't see why they would flower and then re veg unless they were really tiny? The plant should finish flowering if it is a ok size.
Exactly as he explained - the days are too long so it starts growing again, especially in Cape Town. It could happen with only some plants even if they're 2m tall. Only sure way to prevent it is to cover it/move indoors to shorten the daylight.
Ok forgive me, I don't think I understand the lighting hours properly. I know to flower plants need 12/12. So by planting now when will flowering start? i.e. when will there be exactly 12 hours sun 12 hours dark?
My understanding and I think this may be where I am wrong, is that sep, oct, nov = veg and dec, jan, feb will be flowering, harvest late feb - march. So if you plant now you still have a month or so of veg and then flowering will induce and the plant should then continue to flower until its done. no?

No idea how autoflowering works.
Depends on a whole lot of factors: Age of plant, genetics (some autoflower), temperature, how much sunlight the plant gets, even the phase of the moon.
Basically a hormone builds up when there is darkness (even moonlight will slow it down). If it reaches a certain saturation level the plant will start to flower.
If the plant is young it will be harder to "tip" it into flowering mode and once it flowers it tends to keep going unless its exposes to a whole lot of light and the hormone drops enough.
Result is that most plants flower as the days start to shorten around Feb. At least for local genetics . I usually find they are ready to harvest Apr / May. Ones you plant a bit later sometimes finish earlier as they are smaller.
Sometimes I'll keep a few in pots and 'force flower' them when they get to a decent size by carrying them into my garage where its totally dark for about 14hrs / day. Generally I prefer not to as even a month less vegetative growth means about 1/3 smaller harvest.

Thanks for that much better explanation. Makes sense. So essentially if you plant now you are going to end up with some big plants by the time they start flowering. Top, fimming, LST etc can be done.
Not as big as if you sprouted in Aug and planted out in Sept. But yeah they will grow pretty big IF they have the genetic tendency to. Many Sativa's and certainly all African strains can get pretty huge.
I mostly plant Transkei / Malawi and the ones that get solid sun end up 2 - 2.5m.
Here is a question I would like to hear some opinions on, if you had say R20k, would you rather put up a decent greenhouse and grow in that or upgrade your indoor grow and grow indoors.
You don't need to spend that much on a greenhouse.
I got this greenhouse in 2013 (currently in storage): http://easygreenhouses.co.za/product/mythos-8-greenhouse/
Costs R7,500 now.

I got a few ladies that I have just put into 10 gallon pots, about a week and half old now. I have 3 auto's, never grown an auto so looking forward to it. I potted them directly into their 10gal pots. They all getting a full days worth of sun and so far loving life it seems. One of my sour d looks to be struggling but not sure why.
Also got a few fem photoperoid seeds, hoping they get nice and big as I have the space. Let it grow, let it grow!

I haven't.Do you ever cover your GH in shade net? Would weed do well in one of these in the sun the entire day? A little worried about heat.
What I would do :
Pour the money in your outdoor greenhouse, but maintain a small indoor veg chamber to keep mother plants going all year round. You probably only need 50-100 w cfls (and 18 hours light to keep her in veg stage) to maintain a mother plant. The idea here is to have 3-4 mother plants of your fav strains and then take cuttings, and then place them into your outdoor greenhouse ,so you always have females in there.
But everyone has a different plan, depends on how many plants you want to harvest in a year, and also what you are going to do with all that bud, recoup losses or just keep it.Lots of factors.
My perfect solution would be to have 3-4 indoor harvests a year, which means keeping a perpetual cycle going which needs a clone area, one or 2 veg areas and 2 or more flowering areas.Perpetual harvests are a ton of work though, so need to design a system that doesnt take too much maintenance wise.

I'm obviously missing something, how many grows do you expect per year in your greenhouse, it seems like you are going to keep your mother plant in veg for almost a year waiting for the next season?
